In the grocery store it struck me today that they have a huge aisle with nothing but ramen noodles. Later I was thinking about it over dinner with Mike and noticed that the ramen noodles aisle is as big as cereal aisles in America are, but the cereal section is about the size of an American ramen aisle. The roles are reversed. Personally, I think our cereal emphasis is probably healthier.
I also noticed in the restaurant that Chinese cooks have a habit of stacking food precariously high on the smallest dishes that can possibly hold it. Food items that I would never think to put in anything but a bowl are served this way, like fruit salad for instance. Then people have to pick off bites with chopsticks which inevitably has disastrous consequences.
