Well I got my new mags for the Saiga 308. Before I was limited to 8 round clips. Now I have 168 rounds of at your fingertips firepower. What do I need that for? Who knows? Let's hope I never have to find out.
The 308 is made by Izmech of Russia. Izmech is the original manufacturer of the AK-47. The Saiga is designed around an RPK machine gun reciever, but due to weapon import restrictions and draconian regulations imposed by the Clinton Adminsitration during the gun ban only 5-8 round magazines were available. Because of the restrictions, the gun had to be redesigned. Its supposedly is not capable of full auto (snicker) and will not use AK-47 parts or magazines without major modifications.
The accuracy of this $330.00 rifle (I bought it last year) is second only to the more expensive VEPR ($1200.00). The Saiga is often used by Russian Police snipers. The biggest drawback is that I can't hunt with this thing. The barrel is just under 22" making it very good for long shots. However, due to archaic laws her in PA that require a manual action between shots an autoloading rifle cannot be used to hunt. The only other objection I have is it really damages the brass during ejection so cartridges can't be reused.
Saiga 308 - Alternate Side Saiga Reciever Closeup My other joy is my CZ "Bobwhite" Double Barrel Shotgun. Its great for skeet and fowl.
