One chronic problem on Indian reservations across the US is the alcohol abuse.

My (better than 50% Native American) cousins were either abstemious or alcoholics, it seems. One needed a kidney, if I remember correctly, due to scaring hers, and died at 55. She would NOT request being put on a list for a new one, as it was self-inflicted damage. Her mother was a closet drinker, but she lived with my grandmother (her mother, so her hiding places got cleaned out and monitored, ONCE IT WAS KNOWN... )

Watching people struggle with the ravages of alcohol is no picnic, no matter who is involved.

Interesting suggestion to have Juan serve as court translator. I'm very curious to see how the Chief takes that suggestion, especially given who it's coming from and who's volunteering to accompany Juan!

The "pack of wild Indians" line got me, as well as the line from Paul Peter, "Maybe that phone will help keep you out of trouble without involving the entire tribe."
