So, I (the store, but it was all me) was robbed tonight.
As I was walking around the salesfloor seeing if my 3 customers were doing okay, one of them approached me.
"Are you the manager?"
"Yep, how can I help you?"
He leans in. "I have a gun. I need you to quietly walk up to the front of the store and open your registers, and not let anyone else in the store know what's going on."
I looked at him, I guess a little perplexed. He looked back at me and pulled something which may or may not have been the grip of a gun a little ways out of his pocket before shoving it back in. "Let's go."
So, I walked him up to the front, opened the registers and handed him the money. Waited for him to leave and counted to sixty then went and locked the doors. The 2 other women customers in the store came up to the counter with their movies. I asked them to hold on a minute, and called 911. As I explained the situation to the operator, the women were like, "What? Just now? That guy?"
And then my other employee came up, as she'd just finished putting movies away. She had no clue what had just happened, either. They all kind of watched me as I filed the report and within three minutes, the police arrived. (And maybe it was coincidence, but a helicopter flew low overhead just as the officers arrived)
Took them nearly two hours to get our statements and dust the store for prints.
It was kind of surreal and I was really calm. My first and only thought was to get the guy out of the store as quickly as possible, so as not to endanger anyone. My second thought was to try to get pertinent physical information, which sadly, wasn't much help. When the detective was interviewing me, I couldn't remember what color hat he had on. Which was just fucking lame on my part. I looked at the guy and couldn't remember the color of hat. I never wanted to be one of those unobservant people and I made a point of thinking, "remember this", and then I forgot it. Lame. Lame. Lame.
People started calling as the word got out around the district. My new DM tried to call around and get someone to come in and finish our shifts (which I told her was unnecessary because I was fine), but couldn't get anyone to come in. So, she just told us to close down for the night.
Everyone seemed more freaked out about it than I was. I'm mostly wondering if that guy really had a gun, at all. That's what's most bothering me. Not that I would've handled the situation any differently, because my rule number one is that no amount of money or product is worth someone getting hurt over, but it still bothers me, wondering if I was duped.
