sorry, this is a day late ^^;

Title: Dazed and Confused
Fandom: Harry Potter
Characters/Pairing: Ron Weasley, Draco Malfoy, Harry Potter (Ron/Draco if you squint)
Word Count: 526
Rating: PG for mild language
Warnings: None.
Summary: Draco's staying at the Burrow for the summer. Ron is a tad... confused about his feelings for him. Harry doesn't want to know about it.
A/N: I'd call this Ron/Draco, but nothing actually happens between the two of them (again!).

Dazed and Confused

Ron leaned over the kitchen sink and looked out the window into the backyard.

He told himself that he was just checking the weather.

Instead of a quick glance at the sky, however, his eyes scanned the Burrow’s small garden. It was flourishing in the warm summer soil, and wildflowers had sprouted up all around it.

But that wasn’t what he was intent upon, either.

Eventually, his gaze came to rest on the aristocratic blonde laying out in the sun, and Ron felt his cheeks heat at the sight of the other boy’s bare chest, already pink from his time outside. A glass of lemonade and a heavy tome were his only companions, and he was ensconced in a rickety lawn chair, balancing the book on his sternum and reading the tiny text inside with his brow furrowed. Ron felt the heat leave his face and he smiled fondly at the sight.

“Wotcher, Ron!”

Ron started guiltily. “Oh - hullo, Tonks. Beautiful day, isn’t it?”

“Right you are, Ron. Anyways, I’m in a bit of a hurry. Have you seen my darling cousin anywhere?”

Ron flushed and Tonks looked at him oddly. “He’s r-right outside. Trying to get some sun, I suppose.”

Tonks broke out into a grin and patted Ron on the back heartily - a bit too heartily, actually.

“Merlin knows he needs it! Thanks, mate - I’ll be seeing you!” she shouted, already on her way out the door.

Ron watched her go, then rubbed his shoulder and winced. Tonks was a bit too rough with him sometimes.

He looked down at the dirty dishes piled in the sink, and then he chanced another look out the window.

Only to have to look again, overcome by shock and blinking in surprise at what he’d seen. Tonks had tripped on a garden hose and Draco was laughing - laughing! - at her antics as she tried to find her feet again.

The sight of Draco laughing, and the genuine smile on his face, made Ron’s heart jump oddly in his chest, and the blood rushed back into his face.

“Hey Ron, want to go for a quick race around the garden?”

“Harry!” Ron shouted, jumping up in surprise. Harry flinched away from him, his eyes wide and his hand raised to cover his heart in shock.

“S-sorry, Harry,” Ron stammered, avoiding his gaze and trying to bring his own racing heart back under control.

“Blimey, Ron! You scared me shitless. What’s the matter with you?”

“I - I just… you surprised me, is all.”

Harry eyed him dubiously. “Whatever you say, Ron. So, do you fancy a race?”

Ron resisted the urge to look out the window again. “Maybe some other time, Harry.” He didn’t want to be out there, making a fool of himself on his broom while Draco watched.

Harry sighed dejectedly. “Fine, I’ll just do laps, boring as that is.”

Ron nodded, obviously too preoccupied to listen to a word Harry said, and left the kitchen with his head in the clouds. Harry watched him go, curious about what had Ron so out of it lately, but too wary to ask. He probably didn’t want to know, anyways.
