Character: Willis (no last name given in canon)
Fandom/Series: Digimon: The Movie
Original or Alternate Universe: Original

Canon Used: Taking him from dub!verse Digimon. There's a handful of differences that I'll put a quick list of here:
1. First and biggest difference: In the original, Willis had nothing to do with the fight with Diaboromon. In dub!verse? He created Diaboromon in an attempt to create another digiegg for himself. The egg was attacked by a virus before it could hatch, and well. Things didn't end well.
2. In the dub, it's stated that Willis was taking college classes when he was in elementary school. While the original movies do talk about a kid fitting that description, there's nothing that actually says that it's Willis.
3. Originally, Willis is from New York. Dub!verse is from Colorado.

Age: Not given in canon - probably about 13.
Gender: Male
Species: Human

Appearance: http://i52.tinypic.com/14w4x6q.jpg

Personality: At first glance, Willis can come off as arrogant and maybe a bit annoying. He has a habit of talking big, even if he can't always back it up. He can be judgmental, quickly forming opinions of people by first impressions alone. He's impatient, and in a lot of cases it doesn't take that much to annoy him. He also enjoys poking fun at people - especially if they're the type to get irritated and flustered easily. If his teasing really, honestly bothers people he doesn't know well he'll apologize and tone it down... but if he does know you well and you're an easy target? Deal with it, you're more than likely getting his snark.

Willis spent most of his years with his best friends being two Digimon, and didn't have any human friends. ... To say this warped his sense of a social life would be a little bit of an understatement. While he knows how to act around people, he's a bit of a derp when it comes to working with people. He gets better at this through the course of the movie to the point where he is able to work with others if the situation calls for it... But he hasn't quite dropped his habit of taking the world on his shoulders.

Continuing on the "taking the world on his shoulders" note, he... really does that more than what is probably healthy. All his problems are his own and if anyone tries to help him, his first reaction is to shut them out, although some sense can eventually be talked into him and he'll be grateful for whatever help he gets. Also, it's not only his own problems that he'll carry, but those close to him as well. If he can do something by himself to keep them from getting hurt, then he won't hesitate to do just that.

He's also a private person. Once again, his problems are his own. Pushing him about it will, more often than not, result in him telling you to shut up and go away. If he does manage to say anything, he's generally super annoyed about it. To add to his general irritation on matters concerning himself, he's an open book. While he doesn't like talking about his feelings, he's really... not good at hiding them. It's fairly obvious when he's in a good mood, pissed off, upset, etc.

While it can take a bit for him to open up to you, if you do manage to get to a point where he really cares about you? He'll be pretty much one of the most loyal friends you could have. He's the type of person who will say "I'd jump off a cliff for you" and mean it. He also really tries to only see the best in people he cares about which... can end up blowing up in his face later. If he cares about you and you're definitely someone who could - and probably would - harm him, he'll tuck that fact into the back of his brain and ignore it. Because, wow, you two have had so many good times together, you've been through so much, how could you possibly turn against him? There's still all that good in there somewhere, he remembers it! ... Needless to say, something seriously bad happening between him and a close friend pretty much crushes him.

... Also, he's a gigantic shameless flirt. No, really. If you fall under the categories of "attractive" and "female," he is going to flirt with you. No shame whatsoever.

Strengths/Abilities: He's pretty damn book-smart and a quick learner - he was taking college classes when he was in elementary school. He's also become a fast runner over the years, thanks to running from a Digimon that had been infected by a virus. Otherwise, he's a normal human. No special abilities here.

Weaknesses: He's a normal, squishy human with normal, squishy human reactions to potentially harmful things. Which... can be a problem sometimes, as he has a good habit of trying to take on potentially harmful things by himself.

History: At about five or six years old, Willis found a digiegg containing twin Digimon, Terriermon and Kokomon. He considered them to be his best friends, and four years later decided it would be a good idea to try to make another one. He managed to create a digiegg on his computer, but before it hatched it was infected by a virus.

Meanwhile, in Japan, a handful of others with Digimon - Tai and Izzy, later joined by Matt and TK - found out about the problem and started trying to fight against it. This... proved to be far from an easy task. The newly hatched Digimon proceeded to mess up technology, call every phone number in the world in search for Willis... and then managed to launch two nuclear missals from the Pentagon which would land in ten minutes: one headed for Colorado, and the other for Tai's neighborhood. On top of this, over the course of those ten minutes, Diaboromon started making thousands of copies of himself.

Almost right at the end of the countdown, the group managed to destroy Diaboromon. Willis celebrated, figuring that monstrosity was behind him for good, but the virus that affected Diaboromon hunted down and infected Kokomon. He spent the next four years watching his Digimon grow warped from the virus and was eventually forced to start running from him.

His running took him to New York. He and Terriermon were confronted by Kokomon, who after a fight with Terriermon repeatedly told Willis to "go back" before disappearing. Willis assumed Kokomon meant to "go back" to Colorado where he was first attacked by the virus and started to travel back home. Two others - TK and Kari - and their Digimon witnessed this event and set off to follow him and try to stop the threat. They contacted their friends - Davis, Cody, Yolei - to inform them about Willis and to tell them to meet them in Colorado.

Davis, Cody, and Yolei, after a few crazy airplane trips and car rides, managed to make it to America and end up meeting Willis in the back of a truck. (Meanwhile, Kokomon derails the train that Kari and TK were on...) Willis then tried to hitch another ride for all of them in a pizza truck, but the truck left without Davis and Willis. Shortly after, the two ran into Kokomon. Their digimon tried to fight him off, but long before the battle had any sort of outcome, Kokomon told Willis to "go back" and disappeared again.

Eventually the two met up with Yolei and Cody who told them that TK and Kari had yet to show up. Willis told them that he figured TK and Kari wouldn't show up at all if Kokomon found them. The kids questioned how he knew so much about Kokomon, and Willis confessed that he created him. He quickly regretted saying that much and left the group. Despite Willis telling everyone that he needed to be alone, Davis followed him and pushed him for more answers. Willis told him about the digiegg he tried to create, how he was responsible for Diaboromon, and how that virus infected his own Digimon. Davis offered help from the group, but Willis refused, considering it to be his own problem that no one else needed to be bothered with. Terriermon overheard the conversation and offered his help as well, but Willis once again refused, unwilling to put Terriermon in a position where he could be hurt as well. However, Terriermon managed to talk Willis into working as a team with the others to defeat Kokomon, and they all left in search of him.

They met Kokomon again at the place where he was originally attacked by the virus. He digivolved, easily evaded the attacks of the group's Digimon, and threw them around before disappearing into the nearby lake. The group momentarily thought the battle was over, but Kokomon reappared and de-digivolved all the Digimon. TK and Kari showed up at that time and their Digimon - Angemon and Angewomon - cut off Kokomon's arms just as he was about to eat the other Digimon.

Kokomon then de-aged the children. Willis finally understood that by "go back," Kokomon didn't mean go back to where the virus first hit, he meant go back to when it happened. Angemon and Angewomon digivolved to release two Golden Digieggs which Willis and Davis used to digivolve their Digimon. Their Digimon fought, but Kokomon quickly healed from every hit. They decided to change their strategy and attack him from the inside. They let themselves be eaten by Kokomon and destroyed the virus from the inside, apparently killing him in the process. Willis was upset, thinking he had officially lost Kokomon forever. However, the others explained to him that Digimon never really die, they become another digiegg and are reborn.

Willis and Terriermon split up with the group to return home, and on their way they found Kokomon's egg floating in a nearby river...

Canon Point: He's taken from near the end of the movie - after he splits up with Davis and the group, but before he finds Kokomon's egg.

First Person Sample: [One minute, Willis was taking a train back home. The next, he was somewhere unrecognizable. A part of him was hoping he'd somehow fallen backwards into the Digital World, but a brief surveying of his immediate surroundings almost completely trashed that idea.

... No Terriermon in sight. ... Awesome. He awkwardly rubs at the back of his head.]

That's odd. I'm pretty sure I took the right train out of -

[And then the vidscreen pops up. All he can bring himself to do is blankly stare, stare, stare, and then stare some more.]

Luministi? Pretty sure that's not in Colorado.

... Comfort and ease? Jeez, I'd like to know what their definition of that is. Last time I checked, comfort and ease was taking a nice long nap on a beach with good company. Preferably with some soda and pizza on the side. That's comfort and ease, not... Falling asleep on a train and waking up in - whatever this place is. This place needs a new name: Luminis-opposite. Where comfort and ease is a lie.

[He heaves an aggravated sigh before flopping over on his bed.]

Agh. What did I get myself into this time...?

Third Person Sample: It looked so easy for the others. Working as a team seemed natural. Of course, in his short meeting with the other Digidestined, there was no time for him to learn that those five had their own fights and differences and problems that they had to work through before they were capable of moving on together with ease. It didn't cross his mind that if he learned the events leading up to their friendship, he might not have envied them as much as he did.

Willis thought he did alright in the group. There were a few rough patches, sure, where he was stubborn and chose to do things his own way instead of listening to their input. He could justify it by saying that it was his problem, he was the one who created this monster, they shouldn't have been putting themselves in danger for someone they barely knew, he could take care of it by himself in time... But whenever the words came out of his mouth, they would pop in with their logic and teamwork, and then Terriermon would jump on their side and talk him into working with them and he found himself unable to argue.

In hindsight, the whole teamwork thing wasn't near as bad as he made it out to be at the time. He got to mock Davis and watch him flail around flustered, he learned that he wasn't the only one with Digimon, and lastly - and in his mind most importantly - he managed to end it all by kissing two cute girls. He grinned at the memory. Being around others did have its perks...

But those times disappeared just as quickly as they were thrust at him. It would still be a while before he arrived at home and got the chance to think it all over a bit more seriously. Currently, he had other matters to attend to. Specifically: Not dying in the summer heat while walking alongside a road in a ghost town where he couldn't find anyone to hitch a ride off of. On top of it, he couldn't quite remember where the next bus stop or train station would be. On top of that, he was traveling alongside a Digimon who whined more than he did. Altogether, it wasn't a combination that he was even mildly happy with.

"Lost. Lost, lost, lost, lost..."

He was only remotely aware of Terriermon's complaining. He learned to drown it out after years together.

"Loooost. Lost. Lostlostlost. Willis? Hey. Hey, Willis. Williiiiiis. Willis!! Answer me. Pleaaaase?"

Terriermon continued to whine, Willis continued to pretend not to listen. Terriermon whined more, Willis started humming obnoxiously to try to drown him out. Terriermon, now thoroughly annoyed, ran ahead and sat down directly in front of him.

"Willis. It's hot and you don't know where we are."

"I never said I didn't know where we are!" Which was true. Mostly. ... Well, he said he thought he remembered passing through here, anyway.

"Can't we just get a ride? I have short legs, I'm tired of walking."

"That depends. You want to act like a stuffed doll for a while?" He regretted the suggestion almost immediately. There had been times when Terriermon decided to talk in front of people at home, and explaining that got annoying fast. He'd already used up most of the excuses he could think of, every one of them chipping down large bits of his ego: ventriloquism, buying a talking doll for his sister (even though he didn't have a sister.), explaining that it was a talking doll that he carried around everywhere with him because he loved it so much... (That discussion was particularly nauseating.)

"Fiiiine. Can we rest a bit, then?"

Willis laughed. "You're already sitting. Do I have a choice?"

"Yeah, you can sit down and rest with me or you can stand there and rest with me."

"That's not much of a choice."

"It involves resting. There shouldn't be a choice!"

"Well, I can't argue with that logic..."

Willis plopped down next to Terriermon, who crawled onto his lap and almost immediately fell asleep. Willis used their resting time to let his mind wander back to the previous few days.

Teamwork wasn't bad. Friendship with someone other than his Digimon wasn't that horrible, either. It was something he still needed to work on, but the previous few days proved that it was worth it.

Did you read the rules? Yessir!
