This is a story where boy falls in love with another boy in the most unconventional of ways.
They meet in a bar, while Kibum is gyrating his hips in the air like he normally does. There are at least fifteen people around him, all of them cheering him on, asking for a show, when the crowd parts and a newcomer arrives. This new person is dressed rather shabbily for a place so atrociously expensive, and Kibum wonders for a moment if the newcomer just entered the wrong place.
"Dance," says the newcomer in a low voice. "Dance with me."
Kibum has never been a fan of competition, but when this man tugs at his sleeve and pulls him close, he resolves to put up the biggest dance showdown the world has ever seen.
What happens hours after is this: clothes all over the floor, their limbs and skin all over each other. Kibum can't exactly remember how it happens; all he remembers is dancing to a familiar tune and moving to a familiar beat until he loses all control.
The next day, he wakes up with half the money in his wallet gone and a note on his phone. "Thanks for the great night," the note says, and Kibum traces the writing with his fingers.
That bastard, he mumbles, clenching his fists in the process. I didn't even plan on fucking around with a hooker. A hooker who's too good a dancer, he adds soon after, and he vaguely wonders if he should even bother getting his money back or just let the hooker off the hook.
Kibum doesn't know much about this guy. All he knows is that he dances well and he goes to the bar on Wednesdays or Thursdays but mostly on Thursdays, so Kibum takes a stab in the dark and drags Jonghyun with him when he goes back to the bar for a drink or two.
"You dragged my ass across town just so you could have a drink? Dude, we have those at 7-Eleven!" Jonghyun laughs heartily as he slaps Kibum hard on the back. "Dance, get wild on the floor or something! Meanwhile, you can leave me with my-" The teasing glint in Jonghyun's eyes is replaced by just a tinge of shock. Jonghyun holds his breath, lips quivering a bit. "Oh."
"Oh God. Kim Jonghyun..." Kibum frowns and squirms a bit when he realizes that Jonghyun's attention hasn't been on him the whole time but has, instead, been on that girl whose hands are rubbing circles on Jonghyun's thigh. "Talk to me when you're done whoring yourself out, okay? Thanks."
Kibum downs the rest of his drink before getting a move on and making his way to the dance floor. He offers a small smile to familiar faces, an appreciative nod to those who are considerably more than just the familiar face.
"Well, you're here today," Junsu quips from behind. "Changing the Wednesday habit to a Thursday habit?"
Kibum laughs a little. "It's not as if I come here every Thursday."
"Oh, but you only come here on Wednesdays. This isn't your crowd," Junsu says through a puff of smoke. His fingers instinctively flick his cigarette. "And you're particular with the people you dance with."
The small smile on Junsu's lips is unsettling, so Kibum just rolls his eyes.
"Especially that kid you danced with last week."
"Don't talk as if you know me," Kibum says darkly when he walks past Junsu and their shoulders brush against each other. "And I can come here anyday I want." He walks away without another word, far from Junsu and deeper into the crowd pooling on the dance floor. Junsu's faint laughter catches in his ears.
Fuck, he says to himself. Fuck them habits. Fuck them all.
A few seconds after, the sound of a familiar song comes into focus and Kibum's dancing to the music, letting himself be carried away by the beats, and a familiar pair of hands circle his waist. When he opens his eyes, there's that boy he met exactly one week ago.
It doesn't come to Kibum as a surprise that the same thing happens to him the very next day, sans the part where the boy takes money from him. "Can't believe you're so stupid you let me do it to you again," the note reads this time, and Kibum scowls as he throws his hands in the air in defeat, sinking back into the bed and letting his face be engulfed by the pillows.
"No, seriously, he's right. How could you be so stupid?"
"Can we move on from the 'stupid' part?" Kibum smiles dryly and Jonghyun tries hard not to snicker. He slaps Jonghyun hard on the arm, which earns him a scowl and a bit of happiness. Revenge for losers like him. He can beat Jonghyun up later, anyway. "'Kay, thanks. So, moving on."
Jonghyun develops a scheme that is otherwise as "stupid" as Kibum had it not been for the fact that Kibum retorted before agreeing to engage in it altogether.
"You do know that this requires your full cooperation in whatever I make you do, right?"
Kibum scowls. "Yeah, whatever."
"Well, then," Jonghyun pauses, then shrugs, "we can just forget about getting your money back, getting your boy's name and getting screwed again. Not my loss, really."
Kibum heaves a sigh before turning to Jonghyun. "I'm in this for the money, okay." Jonghyun raises an eyebrow at him; Kibum rolls his eyes. "And, well, maybe something else, but please, he is not my boy. God, why are we friends again?"
Jonghyun shrugs. "Beats me, but I know you like it."
"Yeah, whatever."
A few minutes after, they find themselves laughing at the silliness of it all.
The plan is simple: get the boy, whatever his name is, drunk enough to give Kibum ample time to break into his house and find get the necessary information about him. Only figuratively, of course, because Kibum would never dare break into someone's property even if his life depended on it. He remembers Jonghyun recommending a particular drink that will surely knock the boy out.
"Look, I zonked out completely when I drank it," Jonghyun narrates, complete with wiggling eyebrows and a confident smile. "And you know me, I don't get drunk."
Kibum scoffs. "Uh-huh. Right."
Jonghyun calls off the operation altogether. Kibum thinks it's a blessing in disguise because really, he's not the kind of person who'd plot something against someone. So he does what he does best - down as much alcohol as he can, get wet and wild on the dance floor, and spot the boy's piercing eyes from the corner of the room.
They dance again the following Thursday, this time on the dance floor and not in bed, but the boy still runs his fingers down Kibum's spine, lets them linger on the small of Kibum's back. Kibum's breath hitches when the boy presses wet lips on his neck, when the boy snakes a hand inside his pants as Kibum moves to the slow beat of the music. Their movements are too much in sync, so much that it seems so rehearsed. Kibum stops dancing when the boy withdraws his hand from inside Kibum's jeans.
"Fuck," Kibum says in between ragged breathing. "Fuck. Just. Who are you?" He takes a fistful of the boy's shirt, pulling him close, and ends up getting a kiss in response.
"You'll find out sooner or later," is what the boy later says in reply before turning his heel to walk away, leaving Kibum alone and panting heavily in the dance floor, the memory of what has just happened still fresh in his memory.
The fourth, fifth, sixth time it happens, Kibum takes control and turns the tables. He doesn't take money from the boy's wallet but, instead, scans it for possible clues as to the boy's identity, but to no avail; the boy brings no IDs in his wallet.
"Shit," Kibum mumbles for the umpteenth time, then stuffs the pieces of paper back in the boy's wallet.
He takes out a slip of paper and scribbles, "Who are you?" on it, then slips it in the boy's hand so it'll be hard to miss. When he turns around to leave, he looks over his shoulder because he thinks he just heard a faint call, like one saying "Don't go".
It's one of those Thursdays again. Kibum lounges on the bar with Jonghyun and his new girlfriend, eyes wandering aimlessly. "The usual, sir?" asks the bartender, and he just nods in reply.
"Can I get what he's having, too?" someone says from behind Kibum. In his mind, he thinks, wow, what a loser, but before he can even reply, the bartender serves him his drink.
"And oh, sir," the bartender begins, voice dropping to a whisper, "someone said to give this to you." The bartender hands Kibum an envelope and he offers a small smile in reply.
When Kibum sees the note, a smile creeps to his lips as he shakes his head and ignores Jonghyun's questions completely.
(Can't tell you that. Top secret.)
Now catch me, if you can.
