Story Index Part One “So, Ryan McAllister, right?” Professor Fenton said once the class room was emptied. He waved his hand behind his head and the black board cleared itself.
She nodded. “I’m sorry- I was in East County all summer and I haven’t been practising!”
“Tell me, do you think you can lift a desk?”
“Of course!” She replied.
“Try again,”
Ryan backed away from the nearest desk and lifted her palms and closed her eyes. Focus! Focus! She thought, but as she opened her eyes to see if it was working, the desk was only a foot in the air, tottering slightly. Professor Fenton got up from his seat and stood behind Ryan.
“You have to continue with the motion and concentrate on negating gravity.” He said, placing his hands under hers (Ryan was secretly amazed how long his fingers were compared to her own) and, slowly, he began to lift their linked hands into the air- the desk followed the motion.
“Look!” she said, turning her head to Professor Fenton, who was smiling that bright smile.
“Very good,” he began to pull his hands away- the desk began to shake. “Keep the desk straight- you can do it, Ryan,”
Ryan gulped- the desk seemed heavy again. She lowered the desk slowly, despite the pressure on her hands and once it was on earth again, she sighed.
“Much better, Ryan,” he said as Ryan felt a pressure inside of her. “I think you just need practice. I suggest you go home and lift as many objects as possible,”
She smirked. “I will,”
“And if you continue to have problems, I will be happy to help you.”
