I must admit that I find the current Wilderness quite engaging. Although a bit disorienting, there are many books to peruse (some friendlier than others) and laboratories to explore. I'm not quite sure what to make of the uniform, however. The skirt i I am, apparently, a Ravenclaw ( Read more... )

These books have their own temperaments?

Indeed, some of them do. I found one titled "The Monster Book of Monsters" which was quite vicious and... toothy. I handled all the books with more caution after that, but many of the tomes had strange and fantastical names and subjects.

That is curious. I believe that I will wish to see this place myself. They are still shaped like books composed of paper?

Have you encountered any others which appear to be animated?

It looks like a book, but has a face and teeth. The pages are still paper.

Only the one book I've seen has been alive, per se. All the others were average books, with the exception of moving illustrations.

Hey there -- sorry I couldn't respond when you asked for me before.

Guess we're even now.

That's all right. Extenuating circumstances are not uncommon here, I've found. Shall we reschedule our meeting?

Yeah... that's putting it mildly.

Pretty much any day except Thursdays now are fine.

Then perhaps we should try for tomorrow, and hope to avoid any trouble before then.

You happen to know if those books can be brought out of the Wilderness?

They can, and I've added a few of the titles to my personal library. A few of the ones that didn't try to bite me when I picked them up, at any rate.

We do what we can to keep the book shop stocked, so I might take the opportunity.

Bite you?

Yes. The one had teeth. You might not want to stock any of those, except, I suppose, for novelty purposes.

I am indeed very much interested. My profound thanks, Sumi-gūniang; may I request that we browse them in the library of the castle, as it seems that we are both very much at home there?

That arrangement is agreeable. I shall meet you there in, say, half an hour's time?

That would be excellent.

[And sure enough, half an hour later he is there, wandering in from another walk around the castle. He's dressed in the place's odd uniform, in silver, green and black, carrying himself with easy dignity despite the unfamiliar cut of the clothes. He is very much looking forward to the meeting.]

[Sumi breezes in half a moment later with a folder tucked under her arm; her blue-lined robe floats around her feet, and the hem of her skirt flutters above her knees. The expression she wears is as severe as Huo has probably ever seen it, very no-nonsense and businesslike, although she does crack a (very small) smile as she approaches, and bows slightly to him.]

Hello, Huo. [Her voice is low, since they are in a library. She adjusts her glasses and tries to keep her legs covered with the long robes, since she can only assume that the length of her skirt must be somewhat scandalizing to him.] I brought the diagrams, as I mentioned. Let us find a table and begin?
