BEST IDEA EVER!!!! I can't stand it when something is not available to me. I had so wanted to check out Friction, the men's only bath house right by the Lotus Hotel and freaked when I saw that not only had the Queer Film Festival arranged an after party there, but MVK also got the go ahead to roll out their own soiree three nights later!
Last night's party was one of the best I have ever been to. Dance floor (yes, at a bath house!) with a DJ booth and two go-go cages on either side of the booth up high to watch the boys dance, then behind red screens silhouetted dances also. Around the corner from the dance floor were the showers with huge windows so all could see you showering. Across from that was the steam room and then the now unisex bathroom at the end.
At first the gay men that were not there for the film fest party seemed slightly unsure how to handle themselves. But everyone loosened up quickly (oh man, did I just say that??) and you got to see it all and then some! Gay men, lesbians, tranny dudes, bisexuals all hanging out in the same space; showering, steaming, peeing together; out on the dance floor dancing in towels alongside regular dressed folk. Making out in corners. Such fun.
Even more fun is what is downstairs. Criss-crossed hallways of rooms upon rooms. The way that gay men cruise is fascinating. I got to share a room with a very fun bear and there was a sling in it. The only other sling was in the downstairs lounge where there are glory holes etc. There is a black out room which I did not find time to venture into.
Such fun was had! I had left home on Saturday around 4:30 to catch my first of two movies before the bath house party. I got home at 7:30 Sunday morning. Oh my gawd I was soooooo bad! Suprisingly enough, I did not catch heat from my household for being absent for so long. Though I did prepare them the day before.
It was so fantastic to see so many new, not so new friends there and as Drew said it from the Film Festival "creating and sharing space together". I loved it and cannot wait for MVK party Tuesday night, though I know the vibe will be a little different. I am volunteering there as well too and of course work the next day so it won't be as late of a night, but looking forward to it none the less.
