Ouran Dub
Funimation is streaming the first two episodes of the Ouran High School Host Club dub. I did a side-by-side comparison of the English and Japanese versions of the first episode, just to see how they did.
The English version is ok. It's certainly watchable, and they don't seem to have changed much in the way of meaning. The best part of it? I'm completely in love with Kyouya's English voice. Mmm, deep and sexy and awesome (I actually mistyped that as "aweseme" the first time, which I find far too amusing - because in my fic, he always tops!) - I think I'm going to be a bigger fan of his from now on just because of it. However, Tamaki's English voice is definitely not my favorite. He's far, far better in Japanese. And since he's my favorite character, that's a big deal for me. He just sounds too young in English. Yeah, he's a little silly, but you have to be able to take the character seriously for the show to work. I don't know if I can do that with his English voice.
Conclusion: both have their merits, but I'll likely watch the Japanese version most of the time...the only exception being when I want to hear Kyouya's incredibly fabulous dub!
