Hurley being Hugo from Lost. If you don't watch Lost, you won't get it (so get your butt in gear and watch it cause it rocks ^_^), but if you do, you'll understand what a Hurley day is.
So the day started with me realizing, as I walked 4 miles around the pretty lake, that my camera was broken. I'd apparently cracked the crystal on the screen. Now this camera has no viewfinder, so although it was still in good working order, I have absolutely no idea what I'm taking pictures of, so it's sort of a lost cause. I have to send it in to Pentax in Colorado and pray that the repair doesn't cost too much... /sigh.
I get back to the house finally, and after reading a bit in
A Game of Thrones by G.R.R. Martin and thankfully not dropping it in the tub (not sure entirely how I pulled that one off at this point), I went in to the office to check email and all that rot. As I was pulling on the blinds to lift them up, the entire contraption falls on my head and crashes to the floor...
So after putting them off to the side carefully, I go into the kitchen to make myself a shake. I realize that I need to empty and reload the dishwasher, so I start doing that. After everything is put away, and I'm loading new dishes into the dishwasher, I accidentally hit one of the nice glasses on the handle of a pot. *SHATTER*... thankfully only in a few pieces, which I pick up and toss out.
So then I go to make the shakes, figuring I'd gotten the pieces up and I'd sweep as soon as I was done... step on something... ouch... /ignore. Shakes are done, and lo and behold, I'm bleeding... /sigh. So I sweep up the kitchen and there are still tiny glass shard bits around. After hot water, antibacterial soap, rubbing alcohol (which stung), and some neosporin topped with a bandaid... I've decided I'm not driving, or doing anything else that could damage me today.
So last week, we learned how to miter corners and do bookmatching (which is basically making the pretty pattern in the middle so that it matches). Here are a couple pics from Tom's piece that he worked on.
We were told to bring in a project piece to press, so we decided to make breakfast/serving trays with a relatively simple pattern. Please ignore the tape lines as those will get sanded off.
So in last nights class, we pressed one of our breakfast serving tray tops to the Medium Density Fiberboard we'd bought for it. We of course forgot to bring a caul with us, but we made it work somehow. Now I just need to finish the other one and we'll get some wood pieces to finish it and leave it looking like this hopefully:
