Pass/Fail Fuckery?

So did any of you fully believe everyone's reaction? Next episode has to sort through some of this cause they left the Carnie part of the plot line hanging a bit. At least I feel that way. What did ya'll think?

Well, it's the same problem Heroes has all over really - inconsistent characterisation and making stuff up as they go along. I mean, as I said last week I actually quite like that the evil master plan turned out to be trying to impress an old girlfriend - that's actually more fucked up than just fighting normals or whatever, because it's so obviously doomed to faliure. But I really don't think that's what they intended for Samuel from the start - does it really fit in with him being so power hungry and "ambitious" for example? One could probably *make* it fit, but the show should be doing that for us, not the other way around! I think this episode is mostly going to make people think Samuel's pathetic because it looks like he was completly destroyed by one girl turning him down. I think actually he's been a bit crazy all series (accidentally killing your brother probably doesn't help with that sort of thing) but building up this fantasy as something that will somehow make everything OK, so it being pulled down has been the final ( ... )

I think my problem is I feel like they have this ultimate plan...but in reality they don't. I'm cool with how things are going...but as I watch I'm like some crazy canon person shouting "Inconsistency to the Plot! Butchering of character motivations!" but then I take a step back after I bitch out and go...I actually liked that so w.e.. Also, I agree about the doomed to failure nature of Sam's master plan. It was so much more real to me...Once in a blue moon you get a person concerned with people at large...motivation from a personal stand point is much more common and therefore much more real to me. Also the utter fail at him not knowing she wouldn't stay was epic! A bit of fanwank for him is acceptable. I think Robert plays the character well enough to get it but as you said they got spalaining to do.

Heh, my reaction also. I've given hope of consistency now though, I'm just trying to ride it out till the end of the season.

That was actually the bit I liked best. Idk, there's something about that combination of someone being powerful and controlling others but also having this childish fantasy that was quite interesting. I even felt a bit sorry for him when she turned him down - he looked so crushed!

We lost all consistency sometime around Sylar wearing suits and Peter leaving girlfriends in the future...I'm not even sure we ever had it.

Childish...I kinda like him described that way. Thinking back it fits him quite well. I keep yelling at the scream going "WTF are you doing? He's gonna fuck kill you! Or everyone else! Think of the fucking children! And WTF are you doing anyway! Why can't you explain that you want him but not in the woods?! Bitch! Fickle fickle bitch!" I'm glad we were right and she was a passing plot point...I never liked her.

Oh yes, whatever happened to that girlfriend! Did she just pop out of existence?

I liked Vanessa OK although she was still using him as the bad boyfriend temporary fantasy a bit wasn't she. Still, I could sympathise - it would be nice to pretend you were that age again for a bit but it's not reality. I suppose she just underestimated how serious (and how unstable, because being serious about idle conversations from thirty years ago is a bit wrong) he was. I would have been happy at the carnival though, dammit! :-P

I didn't like her cause she seemed snooty and unwilling to have a real conversation unless forced to (even back with with HRG not just Sam). I hated that she humored him in a flippant way and then after seeing all he did acts like he can just get over it. She kind of brought the whole main house carriage house thing into focus. You could tell from the get it was way more to him then it was to her but she couldn't be bothered all these years to cut their relationship for his benefit. I'd rather see a intentionally manipulative bitch (Elle with Sylar, Lydia with Sylar, Angela) then to see someone goallessly fucking around with someone...half caring but not caring enough to try to prevent hurting them. But that's kinda reality so I should at least like that it was real even though I hate her.

I took it as Samuel's fall out with Vanessa would be the end of his trying to deal with normals on their terms so much. I figured he still wanted power and a safe haven for specials but he also loved and wanted Vanessa. Now she has rejected him and I reckon he'll get a heck of a lot darker as a result.

I just hope while he goes dark we don't get a pussy whipped Sylar. I like him broken and Carnie but he's all together again and it's time for some freaking vengeance...I want Sylar bad enough to emotional cripple some people with his awesome mind fuckery.
