This year I baked a Christmas cake for the first time. When I was younger, my parents made the cake together - my mum measured everything while my dad did the stirring. They always had an argument over whether to make my mum's recipe (a dark, brown sugary cake) or my dad's mum's recipe (much lighter in colour, and written by her hand in a very old ( Read more... )

Is the actual cake a fruitcake? That's usually why I don't like Christmas pudding/cake

Decoration looks so cute though :)

You and Nathaniel will be able to open your own Christmas cake shop!

That would mean about 9 months of nothing followed by 3 months of intensive baking!

You could disguise them at other times of the year.

New Year's cakes!
Valentine's cakes!
Easter cakes!
Passover cakes! (is that even possible?)
Halloween cakes!
Back to School cakes!
Justin Bieber's birthday cakes!

Easter cakes are already a thing and look totally different! As for Passover cakes, it is possible to make baked goods for Passover. I have a recipe for Passover brownies that's quite nice. It uses matzo meal (finely ground matzo) in place of flour.

And I'm saying nothing about your last suggestion :P

Is that fondant icing? Tsk! :P Those little snowmen round the base are cute, I used those on our cakes last year. I didn't actually get round to decorating this year's though. The only downside to making a good cake is that you're expected to do it every year!

It's rolled icing, I really hate royal icing!

I hate fondant icing! I find it's overly sweet and doesn't taste of anything.
