Books books books! Book meme

How many books read in 2012?

48, according to my book journal

Fiction/Non-Fiction ratio?

33:15

Male/Female authors?

25:25 -- some had multiple authors, so. I'm surprised the split is so even!

Favourite books read?

Fiction: Dream of Ding Village is honestly one of the best books I've EVER read; it's gorgeously well-written, intricate, and educated me on a topic I previously knew nothing about. It's like poetry in novel form.

Non-fiction: I've just finished a book called Hot & Heavy: Fierce Fat Girls on Life, Love, & Fashion which is a really amazing collection of essays on size and fatness and sex and fashion, including a great piece by dearrose! My friend Laura is wanting to loan this book out so if you know her ask to be added to the list!

Least favourite?

Apparently I really disliked 3 or 4 this year, but none really stick in my mind. I tend not to finish books I dislike - life's too short.

Oldest book?

Five Children And It by E Nesbit was written in 1905.

Newest book?

I had three on pre-order so they arrived when published:

Peaches for Monsieur le Curé by Joanne Harris
Stranded by Emily Barr
A Room Full of Bones by Elly Griffiths

I loved the 2nd two, Peaches was SLOW to start with but ended well.

Most books read by one author this year?

I read 3 Dan Browns this year. Yeah, I know, he is a terrible author. But they're so easy to read, and sometimes I need that. My reading time is limited and precious, so I don't overly care. I reread The Da Vinci Code, and read Deception Point and The Lost Symbol for the first time.

Any in translation?

Yes, Dream of Ding Village is translated from the Chinese.

Book that most changed my perspective:

I think most books change something small about me, because they educate.

Favourite character:

I loved Robin in a YA novel called Notes To Self - she was likeable but not flawless. I liked the main character in Stranded, too, even though she was an Emily Barr archetypal heroine.

Favourite quote:

There were tons I liked in Dorothy Parker's Elbow which was a collection of essays and short stories about tattoos - it was really interesting to me as a tattooed person who wants more.

What do you want to read in 2013?

I will have to read some classics as part of my MA, so although I don't want to read them I will have to. I will read a lot of Young Adult, too, as this is also part of my MA. I also have a huge pile that I'd like to read :D
