GIGS MEME 2011
Total shows: 20
Bands seen: approx 35
Bands seen the most: Ryan Adams x2; Emmy The Great x2; Patrick Wolf x2; Jesse Malin x2
Biggest Show: Suede, Brixton Academy, London
Smallest Show: Malcolm Middleton at York Stereo
Band(s) you never want to see again: Most supporting acts mentioned above, especially Malcolm Middleton's side project because it's electro-wanking for 45 minutes, probably Frank Turner because I can't deal with the doucheyness of most of the crowd, and The Decemberists who despite being great on record are not great live.
Band(s) you didn’t really know going in and came out loving: Grace Petrie, who is very political and feminist as well as really lovely, you should all check her out. Jesse Malin, who I hadn't ever really heard, his sweet stories and great songs won me over.
Favourite Tour: (or special moments)
- Ryan Adams ACTUALLY TOURING, and saying ridiculous things like "I don't use anything on my hair. Except neuroses"
- SPECIAL NEEDS. Zac kissing me!
- Suede! Only been waiting 15 years to see them!
- Jesse Malin telling stories about being a teenaged punk and his mum calling the Ramones "The Ray-muns"
Nine Favourite Performances
1. Special Needs, supporting Jesse Malin, Manchester Ruby Lounge
2. Suede, Brixton Academy
3. Ryan Adams, Manchester Bridgewater Hall - except for stupid drunken people
4. Emmy the Great, Sheffield Cathedral
5. Shazia Mirza, Leeds Carriageworks Theatre - comedy performance - really good except for Inappropriate Dude laughing
6. Leftover Crack, Nottingham The Maze
7. Patrick Wolf, Manchester Academy 2, even though I HATE Academy 2
8. Gym Class Heroes and The Skints, Leeds Cockpit
9. Ryan Adams, York Grand Opera House
