Ryan Adams & the Cardinals, Let It Ride, from the Letterman show.

Posting this because Tuesday was the anniversary of the death of Cardinals bassist Chris Feinstein. I really miss him, even though I didn't know him. He seemed like a really cool guy, and an excellent bass player, and it's a shame that he's dead. I like knowing that Cardinals are just ~out in the world~ being cool and loitering places like they do, so it hurts that Chris isn't doing that. I dunno, I don't make sense.

Brad Pemberton, Cardinals drummer, and Chris, laughing adorably.

I’ve known Chris and his family so long that I’m an honorary Feinstein. A good friend of ours said we share the same heartbeat. Twenty-plus years of friendship has made us mind reader. We often crack each other up on stage because we’ll play some rhythm pattern we’ve never played before at the same time - total ESP. Providing a solid floor for Ryan, Neal and Jon to dance is our job, but we manage to pick our moments too. Being able to make an entire audience move to your pulse is a powerful thing. Chris is also one of the funniest people I’ve ever met, and there is no shortage of laughs when he is in the room.

“Spacewolf, if you are on the internet in Rocknroll heaven, a. get off the internet and b. we miss and love you. Shine on, Chris. XO”

~ Ryan, on Twitter, yesterday.

RIP Chris, and thank you for the music.
