Today on
14valentines I'd like to talk about Lucy Wainwright Roche. The rest of today's entries are
here.
Lucy is the perhaps less famous half-sibling of Rufus and Martha; they have the same dad in Loudon, but Lucy's mum is musician Suzzy Roche. There's a better biography of the whole thing
here. Wainwrights are confusing.
Lucy is actually adorable, and she has a beautiful voice that's higher and sweeter than Martha's. She has two EPs, 8 Songs, and 8 More, but is working on a full-length album. Because I believe she needs the monetary support I'm just going to share some of my favourite tracks rather than everything.
Her blog is
here and her Facebook is
here - she will add fans. She's on tour in the UK next month and from previous experience she will sign things afterwards, pose for photos, be generally beautiful and lovely, and will also be selling both EPs!
This is her Myspace.
01.
SupermanSuperman never made any money
For saving the world from Solomon Grundy
And sometimes I despair the world will never see
Another man like him
This is a gorgeous cover of the Crash Test Dummies song, which is a great song anyway.
02.
Snare DrumWith hair like that you know nobody can see your eyes
You've heard it from your mother if once, than a thousand times
You like it long, freedom belongs to the red, the blue, the white
And you'll play a snare drum solo in the Friday football light
This song makes me want to write. So I did. You'll see it later, promise
03.
University DriveThis is more than the risk
I set out to take
I'm nothing if not alone here
04.
EverywhereCan you hear me calling
Out your name
You know that I'm falling
And I don't know what to say
A lovely (better) cover of the Fleetwood Mac song.
05.
Next Best WesternWhoever watches over all these truckers
Show a little mercy for a weary sinner
And deliver me - Lord, deliver me
Deliver me to the next Best Western
So melancholy. I love it.
