Today's entries are here.

(I've had my hair cut and it's ridiculously short and my layers are about four inches long. Hmmmm.)

Today! I have fourteen female fronted bands or female singers in a sort of 'indie' vein for you. Again, your mileage may vary. You might think some of these songs belong to yesterday and vice versa. That's okay. We'll deal. Again, there are bands/singers missing. They're coming, I promise.

01. Bat For Lashes - The Wizard
Trembling midnight lands
I travel with the wizard
Drink his blood and he's our leader
I can't listen to Bat For Lashes without thinking of madlee276, who loves her. I love Natasha's voice in this, it's very Kate Bush.

02. Helen Love - Shifty Disco Girl
She wears big plastic boots and silver shades
Looks like Marc Bolan on a bad hair day
Everybody's heard about her on our estate
We all love you, shifty disco girl
I really don't know to describe Helen Love to anyone who doesn't already know them. They're kind of bubble gum pop, kind of Ramonesesque and very very fun? They're a bit electronic and a bit punk. Try this. It's great. Particularly recommended if you remember Shampoo and Kenickie. (Kenickie!)

03. Amy Macdonald - Dancing In The Dark
I get up in the evening
and I ain't got nothing to say
I come home in the morning
I go to bed feeling the same way
I ain't nothing but tired
Man I'm just tired and bored with myself
Hey there baby, I could use just a little help
I was raised on Bruce Springsteen and when my mum and I saw Amy about 6 weeks after my dad died, we both knew this song right from the first chord. We cried and sang along. It was gorgeous. It's so downbeat and tired.

04. Elastica - Car Song
I just can't escape the feeling
That I'd rather be free wheeling
In every little Honda
There may lurk a Peter Fonda
Oooh
I have loved Elastica for fully half my life now. Justine Frischmann was the first woman I ever looked at and thought 'Hang on, my sexuality's a bit fucked here'. I drew the front cover of this album in Year 8. It's a rainy day kind of album and I love it from start to finish. I love this band.

05. Regina Spektor - Us
They made a statue of us
And it put it on a mountain top
Now tourists come and stare at us
Blow bubbles with their gum
Take photographs for fun, for fun
I can't hear this song without being reminded of a really fun time in my life, and also of avriisme. I adore Regina's voice. It's so rich.

06. Emmy the Great - Edward is Dedward
I sat with Dan and drank some beer
We hadn't spoken since last year
I took his hand, led him upstairs
Silently drew his body near
I couldn't see, missed you so much
Missed you so much I had to fuck
Between your sheets all charred with grief
The pillows tainted with your dreams
I adore Emmy the Great from start to finish. You probably all know that by now. I love this song. It's definitely "Dan" by the way and not "Dad", as some lyrics sites give, because in the next line she goes and sleeps with him, k?

07. The Indelicates - Sixteen
This scene is the scene to be seen in
Not that the scene is what we'd be seen with
We just wanna be sixteen (sixteen)
Sixteen (sixteen)
Even though we're twenty three
I nearly always have to listen to Emmy and the Indelicates together because they remind me so much of this time last year.

08. Metric - White Gold
The waitress, the actress
Got the skin and the bones
With the hairbrush and an air brush
She'd be white gold
Oh, Metric. That's all.

09. The Moldy Peaches - Lazy Confessions
I like potatoes
I don't like tomatoes
I'm goin' fishin
Cos' I'm on a mission
I'm not much of one for The Moldy Peaches really but I do love this song a lot, and I'm on an Adam Green kick right now, so Kimya can come play with us too :)

10. Robots in Disguise - The Sex Has Made Me Stupid
The sex has made me stupid
The sex has made me stupid
The sex has made me stupid
The sex has made me stupid
Tequila's made me stupid
The grass has made me stupid
Success has made me stupid
I don't like RiD at all but I love this song, I like its clever wordplay and I like how it's ever so slightly up itself. I'm a Manics fan, I like clever and up itself.

11. Rilo Kiley - Science Vs Romance
Facts versus romance
You go and call yourself the boss
But we're not robots inside a grid
Does anyone else ever think that if Ryan Adams was female, he'd be Jenny Lewis?

12. The Pretenders - Brass In Pocket
I'm special, so special
Gotta to have some of your attention
Give it to me
Shamefully, I actually prefer Suede's cover of this - it wins in creepy stakes.

13. Amy Winehouse - Back to Black
We only said goodbye with words
I died a hundred times
You go back to her
And I go back to, I go back to us
I can't stand the woman, but she really can sing. This is probably my favourite of hers.

14. Alanis Morrisette - Hand In My Pocket
What it all comes down to
Is that everything's gonna be quite alright
I've got one hand in my pocket
And the other one is flicking a cigarette
Another album that I love from start to finish. I had this on tape first of all, and probably still do, somewhere. Alanis gets a bad rap these days I think. I think she helped a lot of adolescent girls feel their way through. I love her.
