Band(s): The Academy Is..., mentions of a ton of other people in bandom.
Pairing(s): William Beckett/Michael Guy Chislett, mentions of Butcher/Siska and Alex Suarez/Ryland Blackinton
Word Count: 29k+
Rating/Warnings: This is an apocalyptic end of the world AU. As such, everyone is going to die. I don't however show the deaths (I tried, and couldn't do it). There is one slightly more explicit death. Kind of NC-17 sexually.
Summary: Based on the apocalyptic novel On the Beach by Nevil Shute (MAJOR SPOILERS BENEATH THAT LINK). A nuclear war has wiped out the Northern Hemisphere leaving only one shipful of Americans left living. They seek refuge in Australia and prepare to die there. However, their ship must make a couple of last trips to the Americas, partly because of a radio signal there. Commander Beckett is an uptight stickler for the rules, so how will he deal with the much more casual Captain Chislett on board?

Author's Notes: This fic would not be in the shape it is in were it not for several people. Firstly, colouredmango prodded me into finishing it. Secondly, ashlein completely got the points I was trying to make and assured me that my Australians sounded Australian. redorchids did a beautiful beta job and made a bunch of amazing points, stjarna1984 held my hand through editing even though she doesn't care about bandom, and about 325 other people really, really helped. Thank you.
Being a Brit I've tried to keep spellings to British English but the odd 'realize' may have slipped in - for that I can only apologise/ze.
Oh, "Finish Strong" is the motto off the USS Philadelphia. I can't really remember why I chose that particular submarine, but I did, so.
