What's under their robes?

I was randomly browsing my friends' Memories today, when I found this post by furiosity. It's about what kinds of clothes wizards and witches wear in the HP books (the first five, I believe). Her conclusions are that Hogwarts students don't wear trousers under their robes, and that wizards only wear Muggle clothes when they have to interact with Muggles or when they'll be seen by Muggles.

So what's the purpose of the Weasley jumper then? The children wear Muggle clothes only when they go out in the Muggle world, which they normally don't do in the winter, and they only wear the jumper at Christmas. Wouldn't it make more sense to knit gloves or a scarf? At least they could use that more than only a couple of days a year. o_O

And of course in the films what they wear is completely changed. They all wear trousers. *sulk* They should be wearing just the robes. Without the trousers. By the way, Scotland is very windy, isn't it? *pervs*
