So this morning, NPR ran a story on the seriously rampant, institutionalized corruption in Romania. Evidently, of all the countries once within the Soviet sphere, Romania has the worst corruption of the lot, and that's saying quite a bit.
We have 1 Romanian Assistant Professor, her Romanian Visiting Assistant Professor husband, a Romanian Instructor (no Ph.D.) and a Romanian former-GTA who is now the Math & Science Director at the U's tutoring center. So I'm listening to this and thinking, "Wow. I wouldn't want to live there, either..."
The former TA just came by and we discussed it. She's like, oh yeah, it's really bad.
