When I am 87 per cent sleepy and 13 per cent awake...I am almost inebriated. So I don't expect or care to make sense. That settled, I just wrapped up two movies back to back. Partner in crime? Good old mother! But I think she had a lot of shuteye while the second movie kept running.
Movie 1 was Mulan 2. Well it was your typical feel-good, preachy albeit harmless entertainment. But then one cannot expect an apple to taste like an orange. An apple it was.
Movie 2 was The Last Tycoon. Based on the unfinished novel of F Scott Fitzgerald, it had a distinctly incomplete feeling to it. Though the narrative begins quite intriguingly and crisply, it loses grip the minute Robert De Niro's character, of an invincible studio honcho, falls for some beautiful woman. Painfully slow conversations and extended lovemaking sequences try to suggest something but what comes out of it...is nothing. The whole effect is very see-sawish and could have done with a lot of trimming.
A lot more is going on in this Wall Street head of mine...but I think I am going to just stab this urge to write any further for today.
