Another one down in the office dead pool

No one was willing to put the effort into securing an anonymous way to run a "dead pool" at our office, so we didn't.  Last Friday, we were told of yet another departure.  This time it was someone a little closer to me and I'm really bummed she is leaving.  If we had run a dead pool, she would not have been on anyone's list.  I'm sure of that because we all basically admitted it to each other.

Her new job kinda fell outta the sky for her like my job at this company did for me.  I can't fault anyone for taking a good opportunity that basically lands in their lap and says "Hi!  I'm yours if you want me..."  I hope it works out well for her.  I'll miss the fun I've had working with her.  I was really looking forward to working with her more/longer.

I'm not really big on keeping up with people after they leave a job.  There are VERY few people that I'd like to really keep in contact with from my old job, but so far, only one has worked out (oakparkgirl).  I guess I either see them as a friend that I can, do, would hang out with outside of work, or I don't.  I also don't really like to give the fake "keep in touch" with people that do leave.  I told that to the girl that's leaving and she took at as if she knew me!  She saw no offense in it (from what I could tell), and she added something like "Well, you never know... Maybe we'll work together again some day".  If I say "keep in touch" I either really mean it, or I don't care enough about the person I'm lying to explain my position.

I wonder if our CIO is going to address the number of people that have left IT at our company in the recent past or if it is just going to be swept under the rug like nothing's going on.  I also wonder if in some strange accounting world that hiring consultants to take their place is actually helping the bottom line in the short term.

Maybe I'll try to get her blogging so we can keep in touch that way.  It worked on me for oakparkgirl!
