Fanime 2008

May 31, 2008 01:47

Last weekend was Fanime, and anyone who knows me knows Fanime is the highlight of my entire year. This year was possibly the greatest of the three I attended. Pretty much everything went well and I can even say that in a way a dream came true.

Friday: This was the first year I went to Fanime on a Friday. I guess I was just so excited for it to start and I wanted to be in the karaoke contest. I had to sign up at the convention because it was a kind of last minute decision. Thankfully they had five slots open for con sign ups and I was third in line. Thankfully I got to compete. I sang the ending to Rose of Versailles as my prelimanary song. Sadly I didn't make it to the finals, but I still had a lot of fun and it was a great experiance. I realized just how much I enjoy performing. The whole thing raised my confidence so much. One of the great things about fanime is how I can talk to pretty much anyone at the con. I am usually an introvert, but I become such an extrovert at Fanime. Also, during the contest I saw some friends from last year including Alexandra and Yumi. I was really happy about that.

Saturday: I woke up around 9 and got to Fanime around 11 after eating breakfast. Had oatmeal which kept me full till later in the afternoon. Started off at the dealers room, I actually had to wait in a line for a couple of minutes, but it really wasn’t all that bad. Although the dealers room itself was pretty overwhelming at first. It seemed like so many more people were here this year. After that I met up with Kevin and we headed off to the maid café. We were both hungry and I had kind of wanted to check it out myself. Overall it was pretty cool, not perfect, but worth the $4 it took to get in :P Then it was time to meet up with my skit group and head over to the Civic Audatorium and attend the masquerade orientation. One of the perks about being in the masquerade was that we got to sit in assigned seating that was near the front of the stage. Best seat I’d had in my three years attending. The masquerade was overall pretty good, but I feel that some skits were way too long. I really enjoyed performing though. I was in front of 3,000 people and it felt great! I wasn’t even nervous. There were a couple of issues with timing and backstage was freezing, but it was great overall. Before I went home I decided to sing another karaoke song, Talent for Love from Tenchi Muyo. And boy did I perform. I even got people to clap during the interlude. A year ago I would have just stood up on the stage like a meek mouse. I also got a few compliments and some lip-synched along because they loved Tenchi so much ^_^.

Sunday: Final day, but I wasn’t all that sad because I wanted to make the best out of it. Ate oatmeal again, got into my gothic Lolita outfit and headed out. Got there and went straight to the dealers room. I wanted to find Dave something since he couldn’t come. I was looking for something lucky star. There wasn’t a whole lot to choose from, but ended up getting him a set of phone charms. Hopes he likes them, we’ll see on Saturday. Then went to the artist alley to look for pins for my new messenger bag/backpack. Ended up missing the AMV contest, poo. I was shopping till one, then it was time to head off to Kaiji restricted rock paper scissors. Not as epic as I was expecting, but still pretty epic. I even won something. I ended up in the winners circle with no cards and five stars left.
After the rps, I headed down to the ganaix room to watch evangelion rebiuld. On a big screen. Epic. Later on I met up with Jenni. We decided we were going to go to Stage Zero and try and get tickets to AnCafe. Or, for me, at least, the Ganaix Meet and Greet. After awhile of sitting there, I decided the hell with it and went up on stage of my own accord. I basically told the MC I would do nearly anything to get the remaining gainax ticket he had. Oddly enough a girl was standing on the stage who happened to have ticket but couldn’t go. I promptly got on my my knees and begged :P No shame I know. But all she asked was for a hug. So I got to go. It was amazing. I got to meet something like 47 members of gainax, including the president and Yoshiyuki Sadamoto. And he signed my manga of Evangelion! I also talked to him a little in Japanese, telling him that Eva was my favorite anime and Asuka was my favorite character. Hopefully my grammar wasn't too bad ^^; It was truly one of the best nights of my life (Although I think prom is going to top that:P)

Overall fanime 2008 was really amazing. I got to see friends I hadn't seen in a year, sing my heart out, participate in the masquerade, meet my favorite animation studio, and come out of my introverted shell a bit, the results of which I am still seeing. *Run on sentence like woah.* Can't wait till next year.

And prom is in less than 24 hours! Oh snap XD
