Here's a little story I wrote for english. I like it. Of course this is fiction. I did not nor have ever gotten into a car accident. The point of this story is that it is a fictional story that is supposed to seem realistic as though it actually happened even though it never did.
Verisimilitude Story
A few days ago something amazing happened to me. That’s not
to say that it was a good thing, but it was still amazing. I got into a
bad car accident. This was the one thing I had been dreading since I
got my driver’s permit. I knew it had to happen, drivers in California
are crazy. It was less of a matter of how and more of a matter of
when.
It was a Saturday night. I had just been at the mall hanging out
with my friends Alice and Jeff. Jeff was very excited that day. He had
gone to the mall, (and of course dragged us along.) to pick up Halo 3.
“Man, I’ve been waiting to buy this game for more than a year!”
He said as he pumped his fist in the air in excitement.
By the time we got to the Gamestop where they were selling
the game, there was a huge line branching out from the stored.
“Looks like I’ll be missing Grey’s tonight” Sighed Alice. Once we
got in line all we could do was wait.
A whole hour and a half later, we finally got up to the cashier.
“About time!” Jeff said happily. Jeff was all smiles, however the clerk
didn’t seem to be sharing his enthusiasm. “Sorry dude, but we just
sold the last copy. We should have more tomorrow.” The gamestop
grew suddenly silent. The few people behind us were not happy, but
Jeff just looked shocked. His jaw hung open in surprise. “Seriously?”
He asked. I’m sure he thought it was all a joke, like today was punk
Jeff day and no one had told him about it yet.
"You should have pre-ordered it." Alice said.
"Not helping." I said. "C'mon Jeff, we can come back
tomorrow." I tried to get Jeff to leave considering that he seemed
pretty upset and sometimes his emotions can get him into less than
ideal situations. Thankfully we were able to get Jeff to walk out of the
store.
"I Cannot believe they didn't have a copy for
everyone, I mean they knew how big this game was going to be didn't they?!"
Jeff piratically yelled exasperated. "I just want to go home now."
"Not such a bad idea." Said Alice. Her idea of a good time
did not involve waiting in line for a video game.
We arrived at the parking lot and found Jeff's car.
"Are you sure you ant to drive tonight, maybe you should calm down a
bit. I can drive instead." I offered since I notice that Jeff was still
visibly upset.
No, it's fine. I don't really like other people
driving my car anyway, no offense."
Alice's house was the closest to the mall so Jeff
took her home first. The mood in the car was much better than at the
gamestop earlier. We were all having a good time, the music was blasting and we
were laughing and singing along.
They say that you become more distracted when you
have music playing in a car and are talking a lot. Well, that's
exactly what happened to Jeff. He didn't see the stop sign. He didn't see the
car speeding on his right side. He didn't hear the honking of the car's horn.
Not until it was too late anyway.
We were hit on our right side. The passenger seat was
jammed in by the incoming car. It all happened so suddenly and yet
time seemed to slow down, stop. Our car flipped once, twice, three times.
Although I'm really not sure how many times it actually happened I know we
flipped. When things like this happen to you, you tend to get a little cloudy
on the details.
For awhile after the initial crash we all just laid
there. Oddly enough I didn't feel all that much pain. But I was scared. It seemed
like an eternity, but the ambulance finally came and took us to the
hospital. I was so worried about Jeff and Alice, were they alright? No one would
tell me. I cared more about them than myself. I knew that I was conscious,
but I didn't know if they were or not.
Thankfully nothing too awful happened. I ended up
with the least amount of injuries since I was on the side of the car
that wasn't hit. Mostly it as just bruising. Jeff had a few broken bones and a
couple of lessons to learn. Mainly to really pay attention when driving.
Alice on the other hand had it worse of all of us, although you could also say
she was the most lucky. She was in a coma for three whole days. No one was
sure she would come out of it, but thankfully on the fourth day she did.
After all of this I've learned how lucky I am to be alive and how precious life
is. From now on I'll live each day one at a time and to the fullest.
