I'm studying advertising and marketing at the library right now and am reading about advertising blunders due to translations:
Coca-Cola's name in China at first = ke kou ke la -->Translation: tire the wax tadpole, or female horse stuffed with wax in different dialects.
Pepsi's slogan "Come alive with the Pepsi generation" in Taiwan became: "Pepsi will bring your ancestors back from the dead."
In the US from a Scandinavian vacuum manufacturer called Electrolux "Nothing sucks like an Electrolux"
Parket Pen in Mexico: "It won't leak in your pocket and embarrass you" to "It won't leak in your pocket and make you pregant."
lost in translation
