Quick Lucius Malfoy Question

I feel a bit silly asking this, but I know there are a few people on my flist who would instantly know the answer to this. Refresh my memory, is Lucius's cane only in the films? I can't seem to recall it in the books. I've just never thought about it before.

And does he usually have the cane in fanfic?
