We hope every one of you have had a great start to the New Year and we thank you for joining the "Help MMP Grow in 2009" page. This past Monday, the Media Mobilizing Project and the Unified Taxi Workers Alliance went to New Jersey and gave an amazing workshop at the Philadelphia AFL-CIO Central Labor Council retreat. During the workshop taxi drivers talked about how mainstream media stereotypes poor/working class communities and MMP shared how the Internet can be used to organize people to tell their stories. This is but one example of how this network/project can build power, create hope, and make change. We need to have more spaces to create that and here's one way YOU can help make it happen.
We did a little math. There are over 300 people on this page. If each person gave JUST $10 we could fundraise $3,000 or more in the next month. Here are different ways that money could be used"
* $100 could buy us a flip camera that could be used in making a video about our networks struggle.
* $500 could help us duplicate 500 DVD's to distribute our communities messages.
* $1000 could help us fund a weekend media training on radio/video/blogging
* $3000 could buy sorely needed equipment so communities throughout Philadelphia can record, edit, and distribute their own media for a whole year.
We know times are tight, but in this economic debacle it's even more important for those hit hardest to use new media to tell their stories and make themselves seen and heard. That's the only way we can understand the true fallout of this crisis. Please help us make these stories and struggles visible by giving a donation today!
