The first time it happened we were in the practice room. Han Geng was dancing flawlessly as usual, when all of a sudden he stopped. I looked up from my iPhone and stared at him a moment before mockingly shouting "Yah! Babo~ forget the dance steps?" he looked up from the floor and looked my way. "Let me just start again." he said. Since I never really liked dancing in the first place, I was always given the job of being the DJ. The rest of the members were doing there own thing around the room, some had wandered off, but none were paying attention to you or Han Geng. "Alright.." I started the music over and he started to move, and I watched like always. Then, again, he stops and looks at the floor. I remember being concerned for a slight second before I realized that was just silly. "Why don't you ask Eunhyuk to show you the steps again. You obviously don't know them." "yes I do." " Geng, that's the second time yo-" "I KNOW THE DANCE STEPS HEECHUL!" ... There was an awkward silence in the room as the members turned away from what they were doing and looked toward the both of you. Han Geng looked at me with a frustrated expression for a few more seconds before storming out of the room. All eyes were on me then.
"It's probably just stress."
The second time, no one really paid attention. Han Geng had left to go out, and soon everyone was scrambling around trying to find him. When the manager finally found him sitting on a park bench not far from home, he had yelled at him saying, "Han Geng! You had a schedule an hour ago. There's no use even going now! Do you know how much money you just cost the company?! Babo!!" Han Geng had looked confused, but apologized anyway. "Forget it. Now, where's your phone?" ... " I don't know" We still don't know were the phone is.
"It's probably just stress."
A collection of the members were sitting around the table, drinking, laughing and having fun. Han Geng had just finished laughing at one of Leeteuk's foolish antics when he excused himself to the washroom. We waited a half an hour and Han Geng hadn't come back. "Yah~ Heechul-hyung, why don't you go and make sure he didn't get lost on his way to the toilet." Kangin joked, and I got up, cursing under my breath, as I was the one who always had to babysit the Chinese man. I walked to the bathroom and no one was there, so I went into his bedroom. He was sitting at his computer desk, just surfing the Internet. "Your not coming back to the kitchen?" he seemed startled by my presence and look at you confused before asking "What do you mean?" "Everyone is drinking in the kitchen.." "Oh, Sounds like fun. I'll be there in a few minutes hyung, I have to pee really bad!!" he said as he pushed past me in the doorway. "But didn't you.." I trailed off. No one heard me anyway.
"It's probably just stress."
You had noticed Han Geng was losing weight. He was skipping means and when you'd ask why he'd simply say he didn't realize. He left behind things a lot, which resulted on you guys having to go back to schedules to pick it up, or him forgetting where he left it all together. His Korean was worse now, and he accidentally spoke Chinese a lot. He didn't dance as much, and when he did, he usually forgot the steps. He always had to have a piece of paper in front of him when he was singing, because he couldn't remember the lyrics if his life depended on it. Which it pretty much did, since he's a singer. You and the rest of the members had gotten together and came to the conclusion it was time for him to see a doctor. The members said over and over it was probably just stress, but for some reason, you weren't as hopeful as they were.
Han Geng tried to fight going to the doctors because clearly he can't remember how forgetful he is. He though we were all crazy, but finally agreed to go after we convinced him it was affecting everyone. When Han Geng came back from the doctors, he went right into his room. His manager walked in only a moment later, and all eyes are on him for the news. He shakes his head.
"It's not just stress."
Soon after everything, he went to the company to talk to Lee Soo Man. He told Han Geng that he would appear in broadcasts for the next month, and then it would be announced that he was leaving the group. Han Geng didn't do much after he got the news. He rarely showed up for practice, and hardly went out anywhere else. He would go to the odd schedule here and there, and would listen to super junior CD's and watch the SS2 concert over and over. Of course, everyone would try and support him and cheer him up when they were home, but how often was that?
Three weeks after the news, and one week before he would return to China, he showed up at practice. Everyone was shocked to see him, including me. He walked in with a smile on his face, like old times. He greeted everybody warmly, like old times. Eunhyuk suggested that they go over the Sorry Sorry choreography, and everyone agreed. Everyone got in their positions, and I looked over at Han Geng. He looked nervous and tense. His brow was frowned and you could tell he was thinking hard. The music started to play, and everyone started to move, but Han Geng stayed still. It took a few seconds for everyone to notice and stop. Someone stopped the music and asked Geng if he was okay. "Yeah, just start it again." Everyone's face was filled with worry as the music started again. Han Geng actually pulled off most of the song that day, but the hand tutting part threw him off.. Everyone hugged him and told him what a great job he did, and then we all went out to eat.. It was the last day of happiness we all had together.
The next week was spent packing and rushing around, it was arranged so the news of his departure from the band wouldn't be announced until he was on the plane. The day he was leaving, everyone got his stuff ready for him, everything was packed, and then they ordered me to go and wake him up. I got into his room with a key I had made nearly a year ago and walked over to his sleeping form. "Yah, Hannie, wake up." I shook him a little to wake him. He slowly opened his eyes and looked at me with frowned brows for a moment before speaking. "Shuí?" He looked confused, and from the limited Chinese I knew, i could calculate, Han Geng had asked me who I was. I hadn't known what to say at that moment, and for the longest time, i didn't say anything at all. "Heechul." I spoke quietly. P.1
