“Okay, Daesung. I'm back.”
“Back for what?”
Junsu's eye twitched. “You know for what.”
“Yeah. No.”
“What? What do you mean 'no'? This is my role, Daesung and you know it. You were only here because Sunny needed someone to practise with.” That was a lie, but Junsu had to get his role back and he had to get it back now.
“Then why was I practising the solo just now?”
“Because Kim Sonsaengnim is a dick. I'm back now so you can just take off my costume and-”
“It's my costume.”
“No, it's not. Just take it off.”
“You know what?” Daesung said, sliding the red coat off his shoulders and right onto the backstage floor. “Sucking up to Park Sonsaengnim isn't going to help you forever.”
“I don't suck up,” Junsu hissed at him and picked up the coat. “And he has nothing to do with this so keep him out of it.”
“Whatever. Just know that the only reason you got this part is because Park Sonsaengnim recommended you.”
That wasn't true. Yoochun recommended him because he was good. Right?
“Are you just going to stand there or are you about to get moving?” Sunny snapped at him from her spot close to the stage. “Don't mess this up again, Su.”
Junsu put on the coat and walked onto the stage.
It didn't help at all to find Kim Sonsaengnim with Yoochun when Junsu went to his classroom for their daily tutoring session.
“But why not, Yoochunnie? If you're seeing someone that's fine, I'll just back off but-”
“That's not it, Jaejoong.”
“Then what? Changmin says you never go out with him anymore in the weekends. Let's go out once, just you and me?”
“Let's not talk about this now, okay? The kid is supposed to be here any second.”
Kim Sonsaengnim scoffed and Junsu frowned. He knew Yoochun would be pissed if he knew he was eavesdropping, but he couldn't help it. He wanted to know what Kim Sonsaengnim was going to say about him and even more, what Yoochun would say in return
“I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't show up at all. I don't understand how you can be so close to the kid. He acts like a little prince during practise. I think the whole soccer thing has gone to his head.”
“He's not that bad, Jaejoong. You just have to get to know him a bit better and you'll see he's a good kid, under all that....bad stuff.”
“What's the deal with him anyway? Kids with attitudes like that usually have problems at home. Maybe he's being pushed to hard and this is his way of venting-”
“He has a lot on his mind, Jaejoong. Just let it be.”
“Fine, but talk to him about that crappy attitude, because it's getting on my nerves and Changmin said to talk to you for obvious reasons. If this doesn't change he's out of my class and I don't want to do that in my first month here.”
“I'll talk to him.”
“Good. So how about Friday night?”
“What? No, I'll talk to him when he's here.”
“I mean our date. Friday night?”
Junsu's hands balled into fists and he wanted to punch something, preferably Kim Jaejoong's face.
“I can't. I have other plans.”
“Fine, Saturday.”
“No-”
“Sunday.”
“Jaejoong-”
Junsu had heard enough. He took a deep breath before entering the classroom. Yoochun was the first time to look up.
“I'm sorry I'm late,” Junsu said, dropping his bag next to a desk at the front. “I'll stay late if you want.”
“I'll be leaving you guys to it then. Yoochunnie, I'll call you tonight.-And you, don't be late to tomorrow's practise.”
Junsu ignored him and Kim Sonsaengnim left.
“You don't look happy,” Yoochun noted.
Junsu shrugged, leaning down to dig through his bag and take out his books.
“If you heard, then you also know that I didn't agree to it.”
“I know.” He sat down and opened his books. He saw words, a lot of them but none registered. Am I really that terrible? Am I really...that...terrible...?
Junsu couldn't remember the last time he had cried and when his sight became blurry he panicked. He shielded his eyes with his hand and stared at the book on his table. Please don't see me, please don't see me, please-
“Hey.” Junsu felt a tug on his hand, but he didn't budge. “Hey, look at me.”
He shook his head. He knew he probably looked like a sad ten year old and that only made his resolution to not look up stronger.
Yoochun proved to be stronger as he pulled away Junsu's hand away and held it in his own. “Tell me what's wrong. Why are you crying?”
Yoochun's words made everything worse. Why did he even care when Junsu had been such an asshole to him? Why did he care so much?
“Junsu, answer me,” Yoochun said, crouching down next to his desk to look Junsu in the eye.
A sob escaped and Junsu pulled his hand out of Yoochun's to hide his face again, but Yoochun was quicker and grabbed both Junsu's hands and held them tight. “Take your time, but don't ignore me please. You're worrying me.”
“Stop it,” Junsu choked out. “Just...stop.” The pained expression on Yoochun's face made Junsu's heart wrench and he couldn't sit there any more. He got up and headed for the door, Yoochun followed him into the empty hallway.
Embarrassment hit him and he wanted to run, but he knew he had to face Yoochun again sooner of later so he didn't. He slowed down his pace letting Yoochun catch up to him.
“Come on, get in here.”
Junsu found Yoochun standing in the entrance of the small office the teacher used in their free hours. Junsu hesitated, knowing that that door could be locked and he didn't doubt for a second that Yoochun was going to lock it and he would have to explain something he didn't have an explanation for. Why the hell was he even crying? Daesung's words were an eye opener, Kim Sonsaengnim 's words were the final blow to his self-esteem.
Junsu entered the office and let Yoochun lock the door behind them.
“Sit down. “
Yoochun pulled two chair out from under the large desk and positioned them across from each other. He sat down on one and waited for Junsu to take the other. He did.
“You're upset,” Yoochun started. “And it kills me to think you don't trust me enough to tell me about it. “
“That's not it,” Junsu brought out, finally finding his voice back. “I'm just not used to this.”
“You don't have to be embarrassed, Junsu. Look at me. You can talk to me about anything.”
“I know I can't ask you to stop hanging around Kim Sonsaengnim,” Junsu breathed out. “But he doesn't like me and when he talks to you about me I'm get scared...I'm scared you'll realize that I'm just a kid and a stupid one at that and that you'll go back to him or find someone else or...I don't even know.”
He sniffed and Yoochun whipped away the tears on Junsu's face with his sleeve. “No one can tell me anything about you I didn't already know, be it good or bad. Don't I always tell you when you do something that annoys me?”
“All the time. And that's the problem. All I seem to do is annoy you-”
“I love you.”
“You...what?”
“You heard me. You don't choose the person you fall in love with. Believe me, if I could choose it sure as hell wouldn't be my 17 year old student with a big mouth and a crappy attitude.”
“You're not helping,” Junsu sniffed, but couldn't help but smile.
“Come on, we have to go get your bag and I'll take you home. You're not going to get much studying done in this state, are you?”
“What state? I'm totally fine,” Junsu chuckled, knowing that in fact his face was probably puffy, red and maybe even had some snot on it.
“Just go clean your face and meet me outside,” Yoochun sighed. “I'll pick up your bag. Man, now I have to call Changmin and tell him today's lesson is cancelled and he's going to bitch and moan and call me a pedofile for giving you a ride home.”
“But you love me, so all that is worth it.” Junsu said it as a statement and he hoped Yoochun wasn't going to come back on his words.
Yoochun got up and unlocked the door, not replying to Junsu at all. At least he wasn't denying it.
