Chapter 23: Coming Out and Baby Pictures
“So, dad, why’d you steal my bracelet?” Junsu countered his father in the kitchen after diner.
“You’re blocking my way, son. I need to wash my hands.”
“My bracelet!”
“Don’t yell! You mean this thing? I just found it lying in the bathroom months ago. Is it yours? Here, take it.”
“Of course it’s mine! If it’s not yours and it’s not mom’s then who else could it belong to?!”
Mister Kim ignored Junsu’s little rampage and unhooked the bracelet from his wrist before he put it down on the counter. “Take it, you little weirdo. All you had to do was ask.”
“I shouldn’t have to ask!” Junsu shrieked and reached to grab the bracelet, but his father snatched it back. “And just for that, you’re not getting it back anymore. That’ll learn you to yell at your father.”
“What? But it’s mine!”
“Yell at me again and you’re grounded!”
“I don’t even live here anymore!”
“Yeah, well that was your own choice!”
“No, it wasn’t! You practically through me out!”
Junsu’s mother came into the kitchen, glaring at her son and husband. “I know you’ve missed each other and all, but we gathered here today with a purpose, so get in there and come out of the closet!”
“But dad stole my bracelet!”
“It’s my bracelet now!”
“I can’t believe you two,” Mrs Kim sighed. “You’re acting like children! What would Yoochun think of you when he saw you acting like this, Junsu?”
“He acts like that all the time.” They turned around and saw Yoochun standing in the doorway.
“Yoochun, tell my dad to give my bracelet back!”
“O, so you’re calling your boyfriend on me now?” Mr Kim snorted.
“Boyfriend?”
They turned around again and saw Kangta standing behind Yoochun.
“Oh, you two have done it now,” Mrs Kim hissed at them.
“What? We were going to tell him anyway!” Mr Kim said and earned a smack on the arm from his wife.
“Tell me what?” Kangta asked, looking confused. “And why were you yelling?”
“Let’s take this to the living room, shall we?” Mrs Kim said, guiding everyone out of the kitchen. All the while Junsu and his dad were exchanging glares.
When Yoochun’s mother saw the whole group come out of the kitchen she sat up. “Yoochun, what did you do?”
“It all started when I gave this idiot a present,” Yoochun sighed, pointing at Junsu who was still glaring at his dad.
“What’s the big deal anyway? It’s not like Yoochun is his son, or anything,” Mr Kim muttered.
Kangta hung his head and his shoulders drooped.
“Good going, dad,” Junsu rolled his eyes.
“What? It’s true!”
“Sensitivity, honey. Look it up in a dictionary,” Mrs Kim said.
Meanwhile Yoochun’s mother was softly talking to Kangta and soothingly stroking his back, when all of a sudden she looked up at Yoochun. “Don’t you want to say something to him, sweety?”
Yoochun was confused. What was he supposed to say? Why were they there again? “Oh, yeah. I’m gay!”
“And proud of it, it seems,” Mr Kim chuckled.
“You’re gay?” Kangta asked.
“Oh, come on. Don’t act so surprised,” Mr Kim rolled his eyes. “You can’t be serious.”
“No…I mean…I’ve always thought Junsu was gay, but Yoochun…I’ve seen you with girls!”
“You never disappoint me, do you?” Mr Kim said, patting Junsu on the shoulder.
“Well, I’m not exactly gay,” Yoochun explained.
“Yes, you are. I have proof!” Junsu frowned.
“I think Yoochun is trying to say he’s bisexual,” Yoochun’s mom interfered.
“But you’re with me, so you’re gay,” Junsu said.
“But I’ve liked girls before,” Yoochun said. “And girls are hot.”
“Here, here,” Mr Kim said. “You could learn a thing or two from him, son.”
“He’s my boyfriend, dad!”
“Your boyfriend?” Kangta asked. “Wait, did everyone know about this but me?”
“It’s just that I didn’t know what your opinion on this was,” Mrs Park said. “But now that we’re getting married-”
“You’re getting married?” Yoochun asked.
“Well, yeah, I’m pregnant, so-”
“You’re pregnant?”
“Sweety, maybe you should sit down,” Mrs Park said.
“Did you know this?” Junsu hissed at his father.
“What’s it to you?” Mr Kim hissed back.
“Mom…since when? How long? How far are you? Why didn’t you tell me? Ma, this is big!”
Junsu turned to his father again. “Why does Yoochun get two siblings and I get none?”
“Because after we got you, we were scared to have more,” his father rolled his eyes.
“Are you getting married just because you’re pregnant? Mom, you don’t have to do that! I’ll move back home, I’ll-”
“Of course not, sweety! Kangta asked me before we even got the results. Don’t get to worked up about this. We still have 7 months to go,” Mrs Park said and pulled Yoochun to sit on the couch next to her. “Okay?”
Yoochun looked up and saw Junsu smiling at him. “I hope it’s a girl,” he said.
“Why, so you can dress her up like all your dolls when you were little?” Mr Kim asked.
“So you and Junsu are dating?” Kangta suddenly asked. “For how long?”
“About two weeks now,” Yoochun answered. “Of which ten days don’t count because someone was avoiding me.”
“O, that reminds me,” Junsu said. “Dad, give me back my bracelet.”
“Are you commanding me?”
“No! I just…just give it!”
“Honey, I know you’ve missed Junsu a lot, but you have to give back the bracelet now. It’s a couple bracelet, you know? Do you want to wear a couple’s bracelet with Yoochun, now?” Mrs Kim intervened
“Actually, it’s not really a couples-”
“Shut up, Yoochun,” Junsu hissed.
“Couple’s bracelet? It doesn’t even look like a couple’s bracelet! It doesn’t even have anything engraved in it.”
“Yoochun, show him yours,” Junsu demanded and Yoochun slid his sleeve up just enough for them to see it.
“Okay, fine, because you’re such a baby,” Mr Kim rolled his eyes and unhooked the bracelet before handing it to Junsu.
“I’m not a baby,” Junsu muttered.
Yoochun stood up and helped him put it on.
“Who wants to see baby pictures?” Mrs Kim asked.
“I…I’m surprised. But I have gay friends, so I guess it’s okay…” Kangta muttered. “You are going to be my son after all.”
“Step son,” Mr Kim corrected earning more glares. “What? Facts, people! These are facts. I have nothing against Yoochun being Kangta’s son. I’d even give him mine, if he wants.”
“That’s so sweet of you, dad,” Junsu spit.
“How about those baby pictures, now?” Mrs Park suggested and they ended the night laughing at Junsu’s naked baby-butt and telling Kangta stories of when they were kids.
“When Junsu was little he used to be so scared of airplanes flying by, because they were too loud. So one time we were in the park with all the kids and Junsu came running up to me, crying his little heart out-”
“I don’t even know this story!” Junsu said.
“That’s because we leave all the good stories for all the important people,” Mr Kim smirked.
“Shut up, honey,” Mrs Kim said and continued. “So Junsu came running up to me crying and Yoochun was running after him waving his lollipop in the air. He shoved the lollipop into little Junsu’s mouth and he stopped crying.”
“Aaaaaaaw!” Mrs Park cooed. “Yoochunnie is so sweet. I bet you had a crush on Junsu even then.”
“They were 5 years old,” Mrs Kim chuckled. “But who knows right?”
“Why don’t you ever tell me I’m sweet?” Junsu asked, looking at his father accusingly.
“Because you’re not,” Mr Kim shrugged.
“Would you look at the time,” Yoochun said and stretched. “We need to get back home.”
“You guys should visit more,” Mrs Kim said. “We miss having you around. It’s so quiet without all those kids running in and out of my house.”
“We’ll visit more,” Junsu promised. “But not for you,” he shot the millionth glare for that night at his father, who just rolled his eyes.
“Drive safely, boys.”
Junsu and Yoochun said their last goodbyes before driving off, back to Yoochun’s apartment where they had 10 days worth of sex to catch up.
