WARNING YAOI,
Summary : Yunho tries to find his happiness when it's just before his eyes.
“Mother logged you up a dating site” Yoochun, Yunho’s younger brother, was leaning over the counter in his brother’s house, sipping the homemade coffee while Yunho was making one for himself.
“Oh god!” Yunho groaned, yet it could not even surprise him. His mother wanted absolutely someone for him, to take care of him and his children.
It had been 2 month since he divorced his wife, Boa. They had parted friendly on both sides. Boa had taken the children with her since Yunho’s condition could not provide the children good environment.
Yunho was depressed and slowly slipping away, too much in his cardiac surgeon’s work. Too preoccupied by his own notoriety he had slowly forgotten his own family. He knew that it was his fault and even with Boa’s help he had not been able to stop his depression gaining over him. After the divorce he had been slowly taking over it thank to his friends and family’s support and encouragements. And to his mother opinion a wife was what he needed to completely heal.
“She found someone for you! Here her profile” Yunho took the printed file his brother was handing him. The first thing he did was to study the photo, the girl was beautiful, well that was the beginning he did not really wanted to have an ugly match.
“Kim Hara, huh?” he looked through all what was written about her. A former Uni’s lecturer, 47 years old, just two years older than him but still looking quite young.
“So what do you think?” interrupted his brother over the brim of his cup.
“I can give it a try!”sighed Yunho putting the file aside to drink his coffee.
“That’s my brother!”
*
“So you’re going to see her?” Jaejoong was with him during his lunch break like every other day. Jaejoong had been Yunho’s best friend since he entered this hospital (quite a long time now). And mostly Jaejoong had been Yunho’s anchor during his hardest time.
Jaejoong had tried to smooth his (Yunho) and Boa’s relationship. Jaejoong had listened to his every cry. Jaejoong had been the one to look after his children whenever he and Boa fought.
Jaejoong was his confident and best ally. He always gave good attention to his every advice or opinion because he knew that the guy was almost always right.
So today he had told Jaejoong about his date, précising that it all was his mother’s will.
“Yes, this afternoon! Do I look ok?” he put his spoon on the table and looking around and checking himself in every shopwindow.
“Chillax Yunho! Of course you look ok!”Jaejoong took his hand and squeezed it lightly and smiling amused at his behavior.
“Ok I’m going, I have still some works to do before going! Tell me good luck!” he check his watch, took his suitcase and got up.
“Good luck” Jaejoong pecked Yunho’s cheek as the man leant down to have his good luck kiss.
*
“So how was it?” He was once again having lunch with Jaejoong the day after his date.
“Good! She is a nice woman” yes the date had been good. Hara had been pleasantly charming and lovely. She had been curious about his children, and everyone knew that Yunho’s children were a very big part in his life. They had discovered that they had some hobbies in common. Really he did have a good time with her.
“That’s good then!”Jaejoong smiled at him.
*
“Changmin!”Yunho called his son in the kitchen when he heard his voice in the hall.
“Father!” Changmin entered the kitchen smiling brightly at his father. He hugged him tightly and Yunho ruffled his hair. His son was now almost at his height, he was a man now a handsome man.
“Where are your sisters?” he asked not seeing any of his daughters.
“Jessica is helping Seohyun out while I’m bringing the luggage in!” he shrugged.
“Papa!” Yunho turned around to see his youngest daughter coming running toward him. He crouched down in time to receive his daughter in his arms. He got up, his nose buried in his daughter’s soft hair so glad to have her in his arm after this two weeks without able to see them.
“Father!” Yunho wrapped an arm around his oldest child kissing both of her cheeks but not letting go of his youngest one. A big family hug was improvised then when Jessica pulled a reluctant Changmin toward them. Said one groaned for the form but wrapped his arms around his father and sisters nonetheless.
“Come on, I’m going to introduce you, your future step mother”
*
“You look tired!” was the first thing that Jaejoong told him after 2 weeks of Lune de miel.
Yunho had married Hara after 4 months of dating. Though Jaejoong had found it was too early this time Yunho had not listened to him. They had married quickly not doing a real ceremony but just saying their vows in front of the mayor. It was a civil wedding. His family had been the only ones to be invited. Yoochun had been Yunho’s witness because Jaejoong had not been able to attend.
“I’m” Jaejoong was now moving behind him to mass his shoulders and slowly Yunho began to relax under Jaejoong’s fingers.
“Should not you rest during vacation?” Yunho only laughed.
*
“I don’t like her!” Jessica had called Jaejoong and asked, no demanded him to meet her the afternoon. So here they were sat outside on a lovely terrace during one lukewarm autumn day.
“Why?” his eyebrow arched at the hateful tone the usual sweet girl was using.
“She does not seem right, she does not look right!” she answered through her clenched teeth. Her face getting redder and warmer with her rising anger.
“Jess!”Jaejoong scolded her. Of course she would not liked her, who child likes their step mother?
“No I was hoping he would have found someone while going out or something like that”
“You know if I don’t force him to go out he would not!” Jaejoong pointed out. Yunho was really not the type to hang out in bars or eat outside, beside his lunch.
“I know” Jessica sighed sipping at her Coffemocha her anger downing at once.
“Does he still take his anti-depressor?” Jaejoong finally asked the question he had been dying to ask Yunho since months, since the man’s marriage to be exact. Jaejoong had been there for Yunho in the past when Yunho was going through his hardest time, and to Jaejoong’s horror he had the feeling that Yunho had been relapsing those past few months. He had meant to ask the man but whenever he had been to the point of asking him he had just bite his tongue to keep his worries unvoiced. Surely Jessica could enlighten him.
“I think so! I tried to ask him to stop, plus he tends to take more then he should I think. You know that he does not need any prescription to buy them so he takes more than allowed, I’m sure of it!”
Jaejoong sighed, he had been right, Yunho was going down once again.
“But I have a good news: I’m going to marry!”
*
“Yes my love, don’t worry about the price I’m going to pay everything! Yes just pick up whatever you want. I just want the best for you! Yes! Good bye sweetie!” Yunho hung up and put his phone on the kitchen table a big smile plastered on his face. Jessica had called him to speak a little about the marriage organization.
She had brought up Donghae one day to him introducing him as her long time boyfriend and saying that they wanted to be married before the next fall. And his lovely daughter’s wish was Yunho’s wish.
Donghae was a sweet guy, Yunho could not thought of better for his eldest child and he had gladly given his benediction assuring them to not worry about the marriage expands.
He was so happy for them, for his daughter who had found love and happiness that why he wanted the best wedding ceremony for them. Jessica had told him that she had already found her wedding dress with her mother and sister but had refused to let him see telling him that he would be able to see on the wedding day like Donghae. Both men had pouted at the news but Jessica, Seohyun and Boa had only laughed them off.
He had already discussed where the ceremony would take place with Jaejoong. He had been a little disappointed to know that his best friend had been aware of his daughter’s wedding before himself but the man had teased him saying that she only wanted to be sure that she had some to cover her up in case of Yunho disagreeing.
He smiled, Jaejoong had really a big place in the heart of his children, and that could not make him happier because the man had a big place in his own heart.
“You give too much to your children!” His wife’s voice snapped him out of his reverie as she entered the kitchen glaring at him. Clearly she had been eavesdropping and that was not something he liked.
“I don’t, I just want the best for them!” he stated plainly, lately Hara had been bugging him about his children and finally he had seen that his children’s and Hara’s relationship was not as good as he wanted it to be
“You’re spoiling them!” her voice was getting louder annoying Yunho to the core.
“And how is it concerning you?” he snapped back putting down his glass.
“Because I’m your wife now!” She slammed her palms on the table the sound resounding in the whole room and even making Yunho flinched slightly.
“But this is my money!” he gritted back.
“Ours now!”she smirked at him crossing her arms over her chest, one eyebrow up as if daring him to retort.
“Don’t start with it” He snarled and left the room without looking back at her smug face.
*
“And how did it end?” Jaejoong was astonished at what Yunho had been telling him about his wife of 6 months now. It was like the woman was completely an other one, her personality taking a 90° turn from being an angel to devil. Jaejoong had know about her shopping trip with Yunho card, or her small arguments with the children (but always thinking that said children where exaggerating when they told him about them) but never had he heard about a fight like this with Yunho. He had suspected that the man had been hiding behind empty smiles and sad laugh, and taking his anti depressor behind their backs. But he had had never suspected such relationship between he and his relatively new wife.
“She went shopping with my credit card!” laughed Yunho bitter.
“Yunho, this has to end!” seeing his friend was not going to reply him Jaejoong kept going on “Yunho, I was happy when you told me that you were going to start once again but seeing now that it only worsen your state I just can’t stand to see you like this Yunho!” he had seen Hara just once or twice but had never judged her, even after hearing the children’s tales, but now he knew that she was the roots of Yunho’s new depression.
“Jaejoong, I don’t know, I’m happy-” Yunho sighed his eyes roaming over the room trying hard to not cross Jaejoong’s hard stare.
“Don’t fuck with me Yunho! I know you still take your shitty anti depressor! Worst, you increase your dosage!” Jaejoong snapped cutting his best friend, he was not going to let that keep going on, he had already let the situation happen without intervening but now he was not going to just stand aside.
“I’m-“
“Don’t even try to lie to me!” He growled in warning “I know you Yunho”
“I don’t know what to do anymore!” the tall man sighed eventually his head falling in his opened palms. He was tired so tired.
Jaejoong bite his lips at his friend’s break down. He hesitated but finally got up to stand in front of Yunho who was still sitting, elbows on the table supporting his head. Jaejoong pushed his hands away and gently cupped his friend’s face to make him face him. He tilted the small head up so they could stare at each other’s eyes and wiped the falling tears with his thumbs.
“We are here Yunho! Yoochun, BoA, me! We will always support you! Lean on us once! Yunho trust us” he whispered with a weak voice, almost pleading him.
“Jaejoong, why do I have such a wonderful friend?” Yunho’s hand came to wrap over Jaejoong’s one on his left cheek and squeezed it lightly, leaning his cheek to the warm palm.
“Because you’re wonderful Yunho!” he brought Yunho head up and leaned down slowly brushing their lips before locking them softly. They both closed their eyes at the sweet contact before Jaejoong parted slightly away and whispered against the slightly opened lips.
“Cheer up Yun!”
*
Jaejoong sighed. His mind was far away from his works lying before him on his desk. The scene of the last evening, with Yunho, replaying in his head non-stop. He had kissed the man to show him his love, to give him some of his strength, to cheer him up. To him it had not been an innocent kiss. He had not had innocent thoughts when he had kissed the older man. Yet Jaejoong was sure that Yunho had not seen it like this. He was sure that Yunho had only seen that as a friend’s mark of affection.
Jaejoong had always hid his love for the man since their early friendship. Because yes he had fallen in love with the older the first time he had seen him. At this time Yunho had been with Boa and Jaejoong had sworn to never step on this relationship and live his love aside. He had sworn to love the man from afar and only be there for him whenever the man needed it. He had sworn to never let the man know about how heartbroken he was. Yunho did not need to know that because, he was sure that Yunho would have feel guilty and Jaejoong did not want that.
So he had become friend with the tall and even with his wife, Boa, the woman was the sweetest and their children the most beautiful.
He had not even hoped to get his chance when Yunho divorced, and he had been right because two months later Yunho was dating someone again, and another four months after he was re-marrying.
Yesterday had been the first and last time that he let his feelings slip away from his iron grasp.
*
“So you decided to divorce then?” Yoochun had come at once when his brother had called him. He had rushed to the elder house thinking that he it was urgent, so he was quite surprised when he heard the news.
“Yes!” Yunho had taken his decision after speaking with Jaejoong, it was the best for him and his children. His children always come before everything. And once again he was sure that his best friend was right.
“I’m not going to ask why but if this is what you want then I hope you know that I’ll be always beside you!” Yoochun came to hug his brother tightly. He had seen that his brother had been slowly looking sadder and sadder and he had watched unable to do anything since he had not known what was happening with his beloved brother.
“I know, thank you!” Yes Jaejoong was right, as always.
“So we will have you to fulfill the divorce form ok? Then you’ll have to change you beneficiary will.” Yoochun let his brother go and tucked out his phone noting down to phone the notary as soon as possible. He had not agreed with Yunho when the man had changed his will back then, and he knew that Jaejoong had been on his side clearly against Yunho’s choice. But seeing how happy and renew his brother was he did not want to break the mood with a typical “told you so”
“I think I’m slowly starting to live again.” Yunho took him in his arms once again and Yoochun wondered the last time his brother had been so affectionate with him.
“I’m happy for you! What made you change your point of view?”
“Jaejoong” Yunho did not hesitate to answer, a small smile on his lips. Yoochun kissed his brother cheeks, tears of happiness and relief washing his face and he knew that Yunho was in the same state as he felt the older one shook in his embrace.
“I’m so happy for you!”
*
“What did you discover?” Yunho had called Jaejoong all of sudden urging the feminine man to meet him in their usual Café. When Jaejoong had entered he had seen the change in his friend at once bringing a bright smile to his lips. He had sat in front of his friend who had thrown one big file on the table for him to see. A name was written on the left hand corner, a name he had never heard of. But when he had read the first page he had caught on.
“Kim Hara is not her true name!” Yunho pointed at the name beside the photo that was displayed, the same that had been on the dating site.
“What?”
“Go Ara, already divorced 4 times, never been a University lecturer.” Yunho sighed and leant back on his backrest arms crossing over his chest.
“This is…” began Jaejoong but not really finding his word.
“Crazy, I know! But that’s not all!” Yunho finished for him and once again leaning over the table to reach over the file, he rummaged through some paper looking for one particularly.
“What more?” Jaejoong did not really want to think the worst so he just wait for Yunho to find the paper.
“She was charged for aiming a gun and threatening her first husband, assaulting her second husband with a knife, setting on fire her third one’s bed.” Yunho finally handed him few papers and when Jaejoong finished reading them he gaped, incredulous.
“What? How comes she is not behind bars?” he asked horrified.
“Lack of convincing evidence, all the cases had been dismissed!” Yunho voice was weak and Jaejoong had to lean to hear the final words. He hurriedly got up to crouched beside Yunho’s paling form.
“Yunho” Jaejoong was beginning to worry over his friend’s face as his colors were draining away too fast. He took his friend’s face and gasped at the scarred look in his friend’s pupil when they look right back at him.
“I’m so scared Jaejoong” Yunho whispered barely audible and Jaejoong cried hugging his friend with all his might. He tried to give him some strength but he knew that it was not really that much as he was being as scared as Yunho maybe even more.
*
Yoochun cursed at his phone, this fucking secretary had not been able to make some space for a meeting with Kim Junsu their family’s notary. Jung fucking Yoochun had been denied an appointment. He cursed once again and went through all his contact. He had not wanted to resort to such act but it was urgent.
“Junsu?”
*
“You’ll be able to see Junsu next week!” Yoochun gave his brother a piece of paper with the day and hour of his appointment.
“Thank bro” Yunho tucked it in his pocket after reading it carefully.
“Did you give Ara the divorce paper?” he asked while taking one glass from the cabinet and served himself some water.
“I’m going to give her tonight!”
*
Jaejoong arrived at the small Café where Jessica had told him to meet her up. He looked around and it did not take too much time for him to spot the young girl’s long blond hair. He rushed to her and took the chair in front of her making Jessica jump at his sudden appearance. He frowned at her jumpy attitude and this only worsened his worries. The woman had been quite urgent and agitated during her short phone call, and he had had all the way up here to worry about it, imagining the worst.
“Jess? What’s wrong?” she looked at him with scared eyes before rummaging in her purse to retrieve her Iphone, she toyed with it few seconds and handed the device to Jaejoong.
“Listen!” her voice was weak and barely audible but when Jaejoong opened his mouth to ask about it she just shook her head and snapped her hand to him once again.
Jaejoong took the device and put it to his ear recognizing at once the voice going through it. Yunho’s voice.
“…You understand sweetie? Don’t come to see her! Don’t even speak to her! She is crazy! I’m afraid for my life, and for yours! You three! Take care of your brother and sister love!” Jaejoong began to shake at Yunho’s tone: he was panicked, afraid, scared. Jaejoong had never once heard his friend in this kind of state. Not able to listen to his beloved friend’s distressed voice anymore he handed the device back to Jessica.
“When?” his voice was hoarse from too much fears, fears he did not want to be true.
“Almost one hour ago”
“Call the police and ask them to go to your father house! Now!” he stood up and grabbed the woman's shoulders shaking them roughly before letting go and rushing toward the exit.
“What about you?” but Jaejoong was already out of the Café running to his car and starting the engine.
*
“Please be alright! Please!” Jaejoong was driving like a mad breaking near every traffic law imaginable. But he did not care, he only wanted to go to Yunho’s place the fastest. His heart was telling him that something was wrong. Deadly wrong. Jessica’s message only making it worst and maybe confirming his worst fear.
He did not park his car, just pull over in front of Yunho’s house and not turning off the car he ran out of it and raced to the house.
He entered the house without problems as the front door was not closed. He rushed to the kitchen calling, screaming his friend’s name over and over.
A loud bang made him stop dead on his track. His eyes widened in horror and his whole body began to sweat. He knew that it could only be a gun shot.
He ran to the door that was leading to the basement and literally flew down the stairs only to freeze at the scene that was displayed in front of him.
Ara was standing over Yunho’s form that lying sideway on the floor, unmoving, she was pointing a gun to his head smirking like a devil and ready to press the trigger.
“No” Jaejoong screamed and threw himself on the woman who had turned toward him surprised.
He knocked her down but the loud bang and pain that shot threw his shoulders made him fall sideway screaming in pain.
He saw Ara hit her head on the table’s corner making her lose consciousness and drop the deadly weapon. Crawling toward her he slugged the fallen gun which slide to the far end of the room.
He crawled back to the unmoving form of Yunho, barely seeing him through his tears that were now flowing down his eyes and not caring about his flaming shoulder pain. The only thing in mind: get to Yunho, make sure that Yunho was still alive.
“Yunho!” he shook his friend but got no reply “Yunho!” he screamed from the top of his lounge sure that maybe his friend had not heard him, but once again no move from his friend.
“No! no!” his hand griped the man’s shirt to make him roll on his back. Jaejoong gasped at the view. Yunho’s front shirt was drenched in blood, blood that was coming out his body, draining his body. He pressed down the wound the gun shot had made on the man right chest, still calling him desperately. His own shoulder was hurting him like hell and he could feel his consciousness slowly dripping away from his grasp. He bite his inner cheek to keep himself conscious to stay with Yunho.
He did not know how long he stayed here trying to stop Yunho’s hemorrhagic, crying, screaming, yelling his name. To him it was hours but he could not really tell. When he heard running sounds from the floor above him, he began to hope again.
“Here! We are here!” he scream “Yunho hang on!” he shook Yunho once again crying and screaming on his face. And when he saw the first man coming down, screaming to some others that they had found them, only then Jaejoong lose control and suddenly fall forward his last vision being his friend’s peaceful face with the screams as far background behind him
*
“Yunho”
There is blood everywhere. Glossy lips smirking down at him. Dead body.
“Yunho”
A revolver and a loud bang piercing his ears
“Yunho” Jaejoong shot up in his bed sweating and screaming. His shoulder’s pain called him back to the bed at once so he lay back on the soft sheets. Panting he looked around him. White walls everywhere, sterile smell enveloping him. To his right plenty of electronic device and bipping sounds.
“Yunho!” Jaejoong stumbled out the bed taking off harshly every thread from his body.
Bared foot he left his room running in the corridor looking for any room with Yunho’s name tag on it. He did not need to search for long and found the room quickly. With shaking hands he turned the handle and entered the room slowly afraid to see his worst nightmare in it.
Yunho was lying on an exactly looking bed he had been himself in. He approached the bed slowly, almost tripping on his own feet several times.
His body shook violently at the sight of a pale Yunho sleeping with thread going out his body. Going out his mouth. Artificial breathing.
Jaejoong broke down beside the bed’s head. His trembling fingers’ tips slowly reaching the pale face but snapping back at the coldness of the skin. Jaejoong’s cry filled the room and his tears strained the perfectly white sheets.
“Yunho!”
He did not register when rushing sound came into the room. Someone grabbed him and tried to pull him away. His hands grasped Yunho’s under the sheet refusing to let go, refusing to get away.
“Yunho!”
He heard from far away someone calling for help but he did not care, he was just calling for Yunho.
“Yunho!” his voice was louder trying to transcend the other’s voice. He heard more people coming and more hands grabbed him and he was not strong enough to out weight them. His hand still locked with the man lying, the others were pulling him away. He tried to kick and hit but that was no use, he was being led far from Yunho. From the love of his life. A love he had hidden. But Yunho had to know, he could not go without knowing, Jaejoong could not let go of him without telling him.
“Yunho! Yunho! I love you! Yunho! I love you! Please! Please!” suddenly the biping sound bolted up and people came in to fuss around the man, blocking Jaejoong view and effectively pushing him away.
“Yunho!”
“We are losing him!” that was the last thing he heard before everything blacked out.
*
Jaejoong re opened his eyes, feeling groggy.
“Jaejoong!” he turned his head to the one who had called him beside him.
“Jessica” he did not recognized his own voice, but the girl smiled brightly at him taking his hand in her own smaller ones.
He wanted to get up, to scream, to know, to see Yunho, but his body was weak, from sedative he could tell.
“Yunho?” his whisper was barely audible full of hope and painful fright. When he saw the beautiful blond cried silently his heart shattered. He had failed.
“No” his voice broke and his eyes watered as sobs escaped his mouth making him hard to him to breath?
“Jaejoong thank you! Father is alive and awake!” Jessica leaned over him to hug him. Jaejoong was too stunned to move and reciprocate the hug as the news down at him.
“Oh god!” his body finally responding his mind he circled Jessica’s trembling form and cried with her, for the man they both loved from the bottom of their hearts.
*
Yunho was sitting on his bed, he was ready to leave this room which had been his for 2 weeks after his wake. He had not forget, not a thing even though he would have liked to, forget everything. His children, brother and mother had come to see him, crying but relieved.
His right chest was still hurting him, sometimes he even had hard time to breath and the surgeon had told him that now he would have to bear the pain from time to time since his right lunge had been touched and reduced during the surgery.
His reeducation had been painful but needed. It had been intense for 2 weeks but he had held firm and now it was paying off.
He was finally allowed out of the hospital, he could go home. He had a schedule already set of fixed date with the hospital to check up.
He took the few paper sheets on the table, with some well-known physiotherapist addresses on it, cause yes he was going to have reeducation at home. He put it on his pocket and took his Armani bag and finally left the room.
Some nurses came to him waving their goodbyes and he replied happily.
“You have one of the hell committee waiting for you outside!” Yunho smiled, he did not doubt it once.
Yoochun had told him that the affair had made a big noise around the city. Go Ara’s trial would be bring before the court in one month and Yunho was expected to peak at witness stand. He was waiting for it, waiting for his revenge.
But for now he just wanted to see his children, his brother, hi ex wife, his family but more importantly he wanted to see him, the one who had woken him, the one who had saved him. Jaejoong.
Today was his reborn, and he was going to live it fully his new life and that will begin by telling his love to Jaejoong. The one who had always been there. The one who had always pulled him up.
Yunho had beaten himself up for not understanding his feelings for the man earlier, and that he had been completely blind to the man feelings.
But now he was going to change this, his family had given them their blessing and it was all he had needed.
He stepped out the hospital building to the flash of numerous journalists, reporters. He smiled at them stilling few seconds to let them have one shoot of him and finally stepped down the stairs circled by policemen who help him to make his way through the crowd.
The only thing in mind : find Jaejoong.
He spot the man pressed up behind Jessica and the others, his head down crying certainly.
He accelerated his space to reach them and his family’s member parted to let him faced an oblivious Jaejoong.
Slowly he took hold of the man’s chin and tilted him up to meet his tearing and red eyes. Jaejoong gasped when their eyes met but did not pull away. Yunho smiled down at him and not giving the man the time to stutter anything he leaned down and pressed his lips to the frozen beautiful man
“I love you” he whispered against the plump lips drinking the gasped from Jaejoong’s mouth “I love you so much!”
Jaejoong cried his happiness, his hurt, his relief, his every feelings as he threw his arms around the man he loved the most, a man he had almost lost.
He kissed him with all his might giving him all his love and he felt Yunho’s arms circle his waist tightly, slightly heaving him up. They both cried, Yunho never breaking his stream of “I love you” and Jaejoong shutting him up with his lips.
Around him the crowd cheered. Jessica was crying in Donghae’s arms himself crying silently, Seohyun was in Changmin’s arms face buried in his older brother’s chest. Changmin was trying hard to not cry but was failing completely. Yoochun was behind him soothing the little girl over his over protective nephew’s shoulder.
“I’m so proud of him, of them” Changmin whispered to no one in particularly but Yoochun caught it anyway.
“You should!”
