He whipped around suddenly, having jolted in surprise, and he couldn’t believe his eyes.
The furniture was all rearranged around the dimly lit room, and in the middle of the opening between the couches, there stood a real Christmas pine tree that had to be at least seven feet tall, shimmering with gold and silver tinsel, even topped off with a silver star. There were presents littered under the tree, all of which he knew would be for him, and, in the middle of it all, Harvey was standing with his hands in front, his shirt messily undone and his shirt sleeves rolled up above the elbows haphazardly, and Mike felt tears prick at his eyes.
It was a long, long moment before Mike even tried to wrangle up words, but all that ended up coming out of his mouth was the beginning of sentences that didn’t even have correct sentence structure, let alone real words, and all that was coming from Harvey were steps towards him, arms around his waist, smirking lips at his forehead for a gentle kiss.
When he pulled back, he let out a laugh; “Are you crying?”
“No,” was all Mike could manage, and Harvey was smiling and wiping at the corners of his eyes, wiping away the tears that were on the verge of spilling over. After a long moment, still kind of starstruck, Mike shook his head and gripped Harvey’s arms lightly, looking at him. “You didn’t show up. Why?”
“I had to get you out of the place for a while,” he said, stepping aside so that he could raise a hand and gesture towards the Christmas tree and presents, none of which had been there before. Mike just held his pout, and, sucking in a breath, he turned and clung onto Harvey, who just laughed a soft, “Whoa there, tiger,” and hugging him back, arms low on him. Pulling back, Mike moved in for a kiss, because, all he wanted was Harvey.
“Happy anniversary, Mike.”
