For years Jessica Pearson took the lead on any of the cases involving his firm. She has other people who could take care of him but he was one of her original clients. With the Hardman side of the firm coming back into the picture she has bigger fish to fry and she needs to keep one of her pet projects out of the line of fire.
The pet project, Mike Ross, will act as her proxy with Harvey's company. He will oversee any of the legal hiccups that are bound to occur. If he has any problems he is to check in with Jessica but until she gets Hardman back out of the business of the firm he will be working from an office at Harvey's. She doesn't want Hardman to ruin the potential she sees in Mike and she thinks that Harvey might be able to help improve it.
Only she didn't have time to tell Harvey all of this and so Mike just shows up in his office with a note from Jessica telling Harvey that this is her proxy and she needs him to look after Mike for a while.
