I’m not sure why it’s so, but I’m still not feeling the blogging groove yet. Things are, overall, a lot better since my
March 29 turn-around, but writing still isn’t feeling as natural as thinking as it often has in the past. Maybe when the weeds come up…
I did spend some time in the
Vacant Lot of Eden this morning, organizing the shed, raking some leaf-litter, and bagging various species of detritus. That felt really good.

This Home Depot shed of ours was a house-warming gift from my extended family and is a key part of our home. It’s more than just storage space for tools and bikes; it’s my shed-cabana. I enjoy relaxing in the open doorway, studying the view of the yard and imagining how things will look when the plants grow in.

General Woundwort seems to be a resident of Block 173, Queen Alexandra. We noticed him hanging around last spring and believe he ate our first planting of 2008 sunflowers. Hannah says that the spot he is in pictured above appears to be a favourite of his as she has witnessed him comfortably stretched out there. General Woundwort didn’t seem to appreciate being photographed so perhaps he’ll pick somewhere else to hang out. I don’t mean to imply that ours is an antagonistic relationship, so long as he doesn’t ravage our garden (which he did not do last year), but one must enter into such relationships cautiously ~ keeping in mind
the Squirrel Wars and
the Wrath of Magpies.
I’m not sure how the magpies are regarding us these days. Since incurring their parental wrath last July, we’ve had four slices of bacon and a half-pound of ground bison meat go bad in our refrigerator which we set out on a pie plate on our balcony. The magpies didn’t seem to mind eating our food so maybe they’ve relaxed their attitudes a bit.
