The building specs for The Suite didn’t specify a paved driveway so what we have is a rectangular patch of ‘road crush’. Apparently, road crush is a blend of sand and gravel, but seemingly mostly sand. Silty sand at that. It’s a satisfactory parking surface in dry weather, but when it rains, the limitations of road crush become obvious. I figure ( Read more... )

The Kathleen Eisenhardt article in the Harvard Business Review, "Strategy as Simple Rules" reminds me of the ant rules. The article identifies three strategic approaches (Position, Resources, and Simple Rules) and expounds on the Simple Rules approach. Only Simple Rules is cited as being effective under rapidly changing an ambiguous markets.

Eisenhardt isolates five categories of simple rules from case studies ranging from technology companies to steel mills. The types of rules are How-to rules; Boundary rules; Priority rules; Timing rules; and Exit rules.
