this week was rad. having a vacation was rad.
for instance, this was a good day pre-vaca. like, yea, crazy.
i brought cameras, but honestly the point-click-toss things are so impractical they might as well say 'leave in hotel room' right on the box.
but yea, we landed in new jersey on thursday and got this cab driver. we asked him, 'so we're in jersey but going into ny?'
he said, 'shooouuuh!!' (sure!)
'rad. how much longer to the hotel?'
'shooouuuh!!'
this was home for 5 days. it was so nice, seriously.
our view.. a little to the left was the statue of liberty. i missed it because for some reason i was more excited to see a pirate ship.
its hard to see but at the end of this street is ground zero. it was gnarly.
so we were invited to a private mxpx concert on friday for some girl's graduation party, and its out in the sticks of jersey so we get a driver because its like a 1.5 hour drive. we picked up chelsea who lived in slo but moved to the east coast seriously a day earlier and went out there.
garden state really lived up to its rep in the movie. really wet, green and industrial.
sooo.. i counted 27 heads at one point. there were like 30 kids at this mxpx show in the barn of some rich girls house. it was catered and nice, but it was soo random. a bunch of highschool kids, a handful of parents, mxpx and us 3. then to make it better, mike pointed us out by saying 'oh hi, you just got here. everybody say hi to the people who just arrived.' only we'd been standing there for a half hour and everybody was like 'uhhhh...' because they didnt know us.
this is mike taking the time to organize a pseudo dance competition... which failed. i think all the highschool kids had just taken swing lessons because thats all anybody did was swing dance.
anyways, the snickers bars at the show were rad. it was cool to get to see seth and stuff, but the show was kind of a bust. and to ice the cake tom was an idiot. so we call our driver a few hours later and ask if he could pick us up. on the way home we're getting to know our limo driver pretty well and we say 'hey jeff, were you sleeping when we called?' but hes chinese and barely spoke english so he says 'no! im awake! im driving right now.' so we kept trying to re-word the question and we finally got the ball rolling after 3 or 4 tries. it was awesome.
the next day we hit soho and random places.
the parks in ny are awesome
and people watching was our favorite thing to do.
the next day we went to 42nd and did the tourist thing to death
yes, times square..
we stopped and talked to some israealites (the religion, not the nationality) and we pretty much concluded all around they hated me because im white. later dillon and i bargained with this guy and got a sweet deal on a ny tour bus. a couple minutes into it we were thinking out loud, 'i wonder how long this is. like a half hour huh.' and the lady in front of us is like, 'oh no, this is three hours!' so, yeah. it was long, but it was awesome.
i wasnt expecting much..
..until i realized it was an interactive tour, and ducking from traffic lights/surviving was optional.
empire state building = affordable office space apparently.
that popular building. i remembered it from something or other.
everything was so rad.
except for here. this is a picture of me getting hit by a tree branch. i wouldnt call it a low-leaning branch, because honestly, we were basically it its territory, so i guess i (and the whole left side of the bus) was asking for it.
so yeah, it was a good tour. brooklyn bridge.. random facts.. yeah.
so the next day dillon and i are out around 10pm looking for snacks or something up the street from our hotel and all of a sudden we hear BOOOOOM!!! and i was like 'noooo!!!' but then we were like 'wait this sounds familiar, and it turns out ny decided to celebrate something/scare every tourist. the fireworks were seriously so low and they just echoed off every building.
it was crazy.
but rad.
so yeah, we miss our flight on the way home and catch another one, and get a crazy cab driver listening to german electro-trance-disco-pop who was like, racing a bus and all kinds of weird stuff. so from start to finish it was awesome. oh, and lapses in time above were pretty much just spent at the hotel watching movies. it was the kind of trip where we actually werent saying at the end 'i cant wait to sleep in my bed at home' because it was that nice where we stayed. so yea, nice trip. and i get to go back next month for business. sweeeet.
