Rilla tapped nervously at the door jamb. "Ith it true?" she asked shyly. "Girlth can vote? And run for office?"

The twenty-first century was wonderful.

She was lisping. Barney smiled because there was probably something very wrong with this girl. "Of course they can! Now, whether or not this is a good idea depends on who you're planning to vote for. Don't be stupid, vote Winchester."

Barney paused, tapping his chin. "No, that was last year..." He didn't have a horse to back quite yet.

Rilla frowned. "We have to elect the principal?"

"Her son," Barney raised an eyebrow like she was really special. "Zoe's got the job for life." It was like prison, after all.

"I thought that was the case, but this is America," Rilla said, "and your politics make no sense at all."

"Oh God," Barney looked horrified, putting his hands up to block her energy. "You're a Canadian! Try not to get your eh and your weird timbits all over my office, kay?"

"Timbits?" Rilla repeated, looking confused.

"Too young?" They were probably some dirty Canadian thing, after all. "Or did you get hit in the head with a caribou antler too many times as a kid?"

He was an adult and due respect, but honestly. "We don't have caribou on Prince Edward Island," she told him loftily.

Barney snorted. "Only in Canada would they name an island for the dude who will never be king!"

"He was the father of Queen Victoria," Rilla said with a frown. "That should be enough for any man."

"How is he old enough to be her dad?" Barney scratched his head. Oh these weird people from ye olden days.

"Well, he's dead now," Rilla offered, "but I can assure you that he was quite elderly when that happened."

"And still you think voting for these people is a good idea."

[rilla_myrilla]

"You don't vote for royalty," Rilla said. "At least, we don't, and I thought Americans didn't have any royalty."

"We're too good for royals and their weight watcher diets. America is why God created gyms and diet pills." Maybe there was just something wrong with Barney.
