a very close friend of mine died yesterday. She was driving across the street and a huge gravel truck just smashed her. she was the smartest person i ever met. and she was a great person too. she was so sweet. its isn't fair that she dies, when others not half so deserving of a great life are allowed to live. i would die a thousand times over if it meant she lived. my god, its like nothing can ever prepare you for it. you are never ready for something like this. i've beeen a wreck since i heard. after i cried myself to sleep, i woke up a little calmer. i'm not hysterical anymore, i just keep cryin off and on. i need to do something to distract myself. i feel like such shit. i need to stop.

Rest In Peace Brooke.

A 17-year old recent honors graduate of Bartram Trail High School died in a car accident at 5:30 a.m. Wednesday on County Road 210, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Brooke J. LaDue, 926 Garrison Drive, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the patrol.

The patrol's report said LaDue was travelling south on Cimarrone Boulevard. She stopped and then began to cross C.R. 210, the report said.

A Mack truck carrying gravel travelling west on C.R. 210 struck the driver's side of the 1990 Honda, the patrol said.

The truck plowed through about half of the car, according to Deputy Greg Suchy of the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office.

Both vehicles skidded onto the concrete curbing and onto the grassy shoulder on the south side of the road before coming to a stop, according to the patrol.

Both the Honda and the 2000 Mack truck had about $5,000 worth of damage. Both drivers were wearing seat belts, the report said.

Aaron E. Lozada, 51, of Silver Springs, was driving the truck and was not injured, the report said.

While the cause has not yet been determined, it is believed that the accident occurred because of both the speed of the gravel truck and LaDue pulling out in front of the truck, the Sheriff's Office said. The Sheriff's Office report was not specific as to the speed of the gravel truck at the time.

Charges are pending further investigation.

Suchy said LaDue was heading home from a friend's house at the time of the accident.

In May, she graduated magna cum laude from Bartram Trail High School, according to the school's graduation records.

Suchy said she had been accepted at the University of Florida and was to study nursing. He said she worked at Video Giant, a store on C.R. 210 West.
