Title: Choices
Pairing: Draco and Harry
Rating: G
Genre: Fluff
Summary: Harry doesn't know anything about fashion and seeks help from a sales associate to buy a new coat for Draco.
A/N: Stupid Non-canon fluff. I was inspired to write this fic when I went to the mall and watched clueless straight boys follow their girlfriends around Sephora in total confusion. On the same day, a sales associate was helping a boy pick out nailpolish for his girlfriend, and gave him a complete lesson on base coats, top coats, color, matte finishes, shine, etc. It was so cute watching him pay for the products and thought it would be cute for Harry to do the same.
“I’m looking for a gift for my, er, friend and I was wondering if you could help me.” Harry had been wandering aimlessly around the department store in search of an anniversary gift for Draco.
“Of course, my dear. My name is Janis. What did you have in mind?” He approached a female sales associate. Harry had never been good at giving gifts, and figured maybe it was because he was lacking a feminine touch.
“Well, my friend is really into fashion and has been hinting at getting a new coat.”
“Well, okay. And what style of coat does your friend like?”
“That’s what I’m unsure about.” Harry frowned. “He can be quite peculiar.”
“Oh, so it’s a gentleman that you’re shopping for.” Janis winked. “I get it.”
The apples of Harry’s cheeks flushed with color. “Yeah, it’s like that.” Immediately catching onto what Janis was insinuating.
“Well, we could start off with a color.” Janis led Harry to the section of the store that displayed the winter coats. They were divided by style, color, and Designer name.
“He prefers to wear neutral colors, so I think that’s a safe place to start.”
“Okay, so we're thinking something in the black, brown, or beige spectrum? And the style?”
“Um, regular?” Harry shrugged. He looked at the way he was dressed, a simple sweater, a pair of jeans, and his favorite pair of worn out sneakers.
Janis smiled and patted Harry on the shoulder. “Oh, goodness, you really are clueless.” She walked over to a few of the coat racks and began picking and sorting out the different coats. “You see, there’s pin striped, slim fit, we have trench coats, pea coats, this beautiful Chesterfield coat, and you really can’t go wrong with a military coat. But at the end of the day, my dear, it’s your call.”
Harry could feel his head spinning from the different choices. “Can I just... take a second to breathe?” He took a seat on a nearby stool and sighed. “No wonder Draco gets so upset with my wardrobe choices. I don’t… I don’t think I can do this!”
“But sir, before you choose, may I ask if your partner fancies a particular designer? We currently house Gucci, Versace, DKNY, Burberry, Dolce & Gabbana, and my personal favorite, Prada.”
Harry looked up at the sales associate and sighed. “Can you just pick it for me, please?”
“Are you sure about that? I'm not sure if I'm in a position to be making choices for a person whom I don't know personally.”
“Positive. I can take down evil dark wizards and become a master of death, but fashion just isn’t my specialty.”
Janis gave him a puzzled look.
“It's an inside joke, you probably won't understand it anyway. Just... forget I even mentioned that.”
"Okay. Fair enough." She nodded. “But back to the coats, if I were you... I would go for this slim cut, camel-coloured, wool-cashmere blend, double breasted Prada peacoat. It’s simple, sophisticated, and versatile. It’s kind of a classic look that will never go out of style. I’m sure your partner would be happy to receive this as a gift.”
Harry nodded his head and quickly stood from the stool. “I’d be content with anything at this moment, so I’ll take it. All these choices are making my head spin.”
“I have to warn you, though, it does come with a steep price tag.” Her tone condescending; she was unaware of Harry's wealth.
“Don’t worry. I’ll take it.”
“Are you sure you can afford it? This coat costs £1000.” She eyed Harry's sweater and sneered at its horrendous shade of muddy maroon.
Harry huffed in frustration. “I said that it wouldn’t be a problem. Can I just get the coat packed up so that I can pay and go home?”
Janis remained skeptical but eventually abided by Harry’s request. “As you wish sir. This coat was an excellent choice. Follow me to the checkout so and we can finalize your purchase.”

As Harry returned home, he put the long white box that contained Draco’s coat on their bed and got a bottle of wine chilling in a bucket of ice for their romantic evening in. Draco already had dinner in the oven, the divine aroma that filled the kitchen was a tantalizing tease on the senses. Draco also left behind a little note informing Harry that he had to stop at the grocery store to pick up a few fresh herbs and a sack of potatoes, but that he’d be home shortly. This time alone had Harry nervously pacing the living room, as his uncertainty of Draco's liking of the gift plagued his mind. In his state of panic, he failed to hear Draco return, who found the box on their bed before Harry had the chance to say anything about it.
“Harry?” Draco called from their bedroom. "Harry, are you home?"
He rushed into the bedroom completely mortified as Draco was already wearing the coat, checking it out in his vanity mirror.
“Draco! I didn’t hear you come home. Why didn't you use the floo?"
"Why get dusty and ashy when I can just apparate? We didn't go through all that training in our sixth year to not utilize such a convenient way of travel. Right?"
"I guess you're right."
"Well, it's nice to see you, too. Did you have a good day?" Draco turned to face his lover. “Does this coat happen to be for me? You can't just leave unlabeled boxes lying around our bedroom. I'll just assume it's for me.”
“I can explain!” Harry dropped to his knees defeatedly. “Please don’t be upset with me.”
"So this coat is for me!" Draco smiled. “But do tell me why I should be feeling upset for the moment.”
Harry hesitated to provide Draco an answer. “Well… Maybe because you probably don’t like the coat?”
Draco shrugged and took a second look at himself in the mirror. “Of course I don’t like it.”
Harry frowned. "I figured, such."
“No, Harry." Draco exclaimed. "I love it!”
Harry stood from his knees and slowly approached Draco. “Y-you do?”
“Of course, silly. Why wouldn’t I?” He kissed Harry on the lips. “You’re too hard on yourself sometimes, you know?”
Harry blushed and wrapped his arms around his lover. The coat fit him perfectly like a glove.
“But I have one quick question for you.”
Harry hummed.
“Don’t you agree that Janis is so lovely?”
"That's the name of the woman that helped me pick out your coat." Harry’s heart sank. “How do you know her name?”
Draco just chuckled and pressed another chaste kiss against Harry’s lips. “Let’s just say that your ability to fight dark wizards is just much more impressive than your sense of style. I knew you were heading out to buy my present today when I eavesdropped on the conversation you had with Hermione last night, so I stopped by the store a few hours before you left and picked out a coat myself. I put it on hold with Janis and told her to look for you when you arrived. She played her part of my plan quite brilliantly, if I may add. I'm surprised that, you, Mr. Top Auror of the MLE, was unaware of the harmless deceit.”
Harry blinked in disbelief. "Well it looks like I'm going to have to watch myself around you now. You pulled off your plan like quite the expert." Harry smiled and returned Draco’s kiss. “I love you, Draco Malfoy.”
Draco smiled against Harry's lips. “I love you, too, Harry Potter. But just one thing?"
"What's that?" Harry pulled away from the kiss.
"Please get rid of that god awful maroon sweater."
