*Returns the firm grip* Similar occupations. It is always a task to coordinate a winter with a ship in such conditions. Work? I assume you are not planning to work for Harmonia again.

I can imagine. Captaining a ship is far different from captaining a team of mercenaries. *shakes his head* No, as a matter of fact, I resigned from the Defense Force about a month ago. Sigurd and I are striking out on our own, instead.

Both have their challenges, I am sure. *Surprised* Just the two of you? Will you be leaving Budehuc and try for other locations?

Well, I would like to have a team of at least three or four, but so far, I haven't been able to solidly recruit anyone. In the meantime, we're taking small jobs that won't tax two. *another head-shake* No, Budehuc is a perfectly good home base. I have contacts in the region I can make use of.

Ah, I see. The rest of your previous team has retired? *Nods* I am glad to hear it.

Well, some have. Queen, for one. Ace and Joker simply went off on their own, but if they come back to Caleria, they're going to have a surprise waiting. *sighs* It's better this way.

I can understand Queen's departure...the others have just disappeared?

Hm. Jacques retired to marry Aila, I'm sure. I received no official word, so I'm not positive. Ace decided he wanted to roam, and Joker... *another sigh* ...left because he couldn't stomach my relationship with Sigurd. If he gets over it and returns to the team, he'll find that I've resigned anyway.

Marriage and children have retired many a solider...or mercenary, in this case. *Shrugs* Perhaps that is a sign of the peace we are in?

*Frowns* I am sorry to hear that...perhaps time, and space, will heal that wound.

This is true. I don't begrudge Jacques his happiness one bit, especially since I've found it for myself. But I have no intention of retiring and becoming a lazy old man just because I have someone.

Yeah, well...there's something to be said for sleeping in when there's another body keeping the bed warm.
