Experimenting

*seated by the fountain, a certain Tenkai is testing out his own creation... that is, he's carefully placing the newly finished boat carving on the surface of the water..........

...Only to see it sink*

...What am I doing wrong...? *was CERTAIN it would float too! ...tries to make it float again*

Oh dear. *peering over his shoulder* Whatever are you up to, Tyr?

*didn't jump, but jolted the boat enough to make it tip over and pludge for the fountain's depths...again*

Ah... I was trying to see if it was sea-worthy... *even though a fountain doesn't quite count as a sea*

Hmm... Maybe the type of wood you used is too heavy. Or maybe the shape needs to be different.

I don't think the wood is so heavy that it wouldn't float. *kinda did carve the hell out of it D:*

*c-carefully deposits it on the water surface again and........ it only stays afloat for a second before sinking* ...but maybe you're right about the shape, Miss Seneca. *doesn't know if he can do anything about the shape now though*

............ *stands near him and stares at the boat.... then stares towards the lake* ..... *stares at the fountain again*

........ I know what would float. *totally calm and stoic expression*

*trying to pretend he doesn't feel the staring, even if it sorta unnerves him*

Really? What would float? *aaaaaaand... has to fish the boat out of the fountain again*

... The answer depends on how well you fare in water.

... *looks up from the fountain, toward Luc* If I'm going for a swim, you're coming along. *just barely got rid of his cold too*

*comes up beside him and casually pulls the carved boat out of the fountain*
Looks to me like you've carved too much out of the hull. It needs more buoyancy.

*looks it over more closely*

The draft is a bit shallow as well, which is why it tips over so easily.

*hands it back to him with a rare, kind smile*
What's your name?

*was admittedly surprised by the sudden abduction of his creation, but now that it's back in his hands, he can't help but feel a bit stupid awed* Oh. *the draft and the hull, eh? Will have to remember that* Thank you for the advice.

My name is Tyr. What is yours, Miss?

*enlightened!* I do, Miss Kika.

That would explain why you're knowledgeable of boats then. Have you been here long?

If you're not gonna use that, let me have it! I don't care if it sinks!

*surprised anyone would want this little first attempt of his, but hands it over to the boy* Alright.

*Smiles at the tiny boat in his hands and then it quickly dissolves*

I'll get this thing to float...!

*does note that smile, but doesn't mention it* People keep telling me it won't float for x, y, z reasons, but I'll be impressed if you can get it to do that.

What's your name?

I see it looks more like a boat than a duck now. *curiously watches*

If the center of gravity is not balanced, it will not push down on the displaced water evenly. Perhaps try to even it out a bit?

I would if I could, but I'm afraid I just gave it away I carved too much material out of it already.
