I'm not sure what sparked this post really...
athenamsb made a comment about Odin in her entry, then I went on Facebook and Larry Cornett had posted a video on Norse Paganism and my favorite picture of Odin came up and I just felt the need to post it.
This is my favorite picture of Odin.
This one is a very close second.
I've almost always seen Odin as the Wanderer. The first time I saw him, years ago...driving down the street, it was pouring and foggy and I saw a brief glimpse of a man in a cloak, large hat, carrying a staff and walking down the street. His back was to me, but I knew exactly who it was.
The second time, at Summerlands 08 as he came through the fire, the same - cloak, large hat, staff. Never his face though.
I know these are common descriptions, but the cloak, hat and staff are usually things I associate with the image of Odin as Wanderer instead of his other forms.
In keeping with the theme...this is one of my favorite prayers.
Wanderer, I am lost. Seeker of the ways,
give me a sign that I may get my bearings again,
and take it from there on my own.
Let Hugin and Munin, who fly over Midgard,
point the way for me to walk out
from the tangle that blocks my sight.
