Sedona and the meteor crater

We arrived in Phoenix very late at night and were in bed before long, so that night was wasted. The next day was spent sleeping in late and doing laundry. I also tried to find my friend kreepygurl. We didn't get to do much in Phoenix which was a shame. We stayed one more night and headed towards Winslow via Sedona and Flagstaff the next morning.

First stop was a lookout with a view for miles. I tried to get a panoramic shot using the camera's function for it but it didn't come out that good. We stopped by Montezuma Castle after that, an ancient site of cliff-dwellings. The Anasazi (a term that has been corrected now) were a people that lived in these amazing cliffside communities constructed out of clay and they mysteriously disappeared in AD 1000. We saw some much better examples of these sites in Colorado but this first experience of it was really interesting.

Sedona is an excellent place surrounded by red rockscapes, gorges and other beautiful scenery, plenty of arts and crafts stores selling excellent south western pieces, and it has an eclectic community. Many tourists flock here for the sights, boutique shopping and world class restaurants. From there we travelled via Flagstaff to Winslow. We stopped by the meteor crater on the way but it was closed so we had to stay in Winslow for the night.

Winslow is an odd town. There's many UFO sightings there and there's definitely an uneasy feeling in the air. The streets are narrow and dark, i didn't see houses lit up either. Not too many people were around. It was quite cold though. In the motel 6 I drank margaritas and watched a movie called Redemption: The Stan Tookie Williams Story. It's the story of the founder of the Crips L.A gang. It follows his fall into gangbanging, his prison term, and his work writing childrens novels encouraging peace and anti-violence resolutions which earned him multiple Nobel Peace Prize nominations. It was very inspirational. I gave in and bought McDonalds and what's worse i ate chicken! At that stage I didn't want pizza and the only other option was mexican but the people didn't understand me when i asked what was in the bean burritos. People there were "interesting".

One of many cute, little squirrels I saw on my travels.

Coming into Sedona's outskirts.

I thought this was the city but it's not for a while yet.

We saw quite a few of these carriages around the south west.

View of snow-capped mountain near Flagstaff, Az. It was awesome seeing scenes like this. Snow-capped mountains rising from desert or semi-arid landscapes.

Car crash desert style.
