Severus,
I haven't seen you since you've been back. Sorry I left so suddenly. I had a meeting with Father was feeling homesick. Or something. How was your conference? How's Remus? What happened to him? Everyone was rather worried.
Potter's invited me to join the Order. Or to attend an introductory meeting. Or whatever. I don't know how I

On speaking terms with Potter again, then? I believe that is a poor choice, but do as you will. Be cautious.
Do you want to join the Order? It is not a decision to be made lightly. Minerva is as ruthless in her own way as Albus ever was. Are you prepared to ally yourself against your father? You will not be allowed to remain neutral, there, and be a member of the Order. Whatever you know about Lucius' activities, you will be expected to share with those whose intent it is to thwart him. Come to the meeting - I think it is a fine idea for you to have an idea of it before making a decision. But think carefully before you commit yourself ( ... )

I don't know. I don't know what I want. I feel like I'm on the verge of some kind of existential crisis. And of course you go and put things into perspective. Can I stand against my father? Without him killing me, I mean?
I suppose Tuesday, then. I can exercise my patience until then.

You are stronger than you think you are. But Lucius is very powerful. He is also your father, and I do not think you have stopped wishing to please him. You are very young, yet, and you have suffered a great trauma from which you have not had time to recover. I don't think this is the best time for you to make such an important decision. Your father seems to at least want to make the appearance of social civility. I think you are safe enough, for the present moment, maintaining your neutrality.
Tuesday it is. Do try not to tax yourself in the exertion of your patience. Think of all the galleons you will manage to make me spend on you when the time comes. Shall we meet in Diagon Alley? What time?

What if I don't want to be bloody neutral? What if I'm tired of being a coward all the time, playing it safe and oh my merciful Merlin, I'm turning into a fucking Gryffindor You're probably right. You usually are.
Diagon Alley is fine. How about noon?

It will have to be earlier than noon if you are planning your usual dawdling about deciding what you want. The Order Meeting starts at one o'clock, and Minerva frowns on tardiness. Otherwise, we can go after the meeting, but you will have to leave your Pet Potter behind, I'm not taking him.
It was quite surreal enough to deal civilly with him during your absence. Now that you have returned, I much prefer my comfortable state of Potter-loathing.

Oh, good. I think the pair of you were making everyone a bit uncomfortable with your getting on.
