The new IN thing - 3G communication. That's the hype in our telco industry at the moment. Maxis, Celcom and Digi are all rolling out their versions, on top of their current price war for the standard prepaid and postpaid services. I've been a loyal Maxis customer since the day I bought my first handphone (Nokia 3310), which I'm still using today. But maybe not from tomorrow onwards. Huh? you say?
I'm getting a new handphone - the Nokia 6680. What's the big deal? Well, I'm excited coz it's a new phone in 4 years! Not only that, it's 3G-enabled by Maxis... at an offer price of RM2,299. Why the 6680 and not the 6600 that I've wanted for the past 2 years? For one thing, it's 3G-enabled. For further info on Maxis 3G services, go to www.maxis.com.my
But that's not the only reason why I want the 6680. I want it so badly coz it has two built-in cameras, one for video calls and the other for digital imaging (ie, take photos or make videos). 1.3 megapixel with 6x optical zoom and built-in flash! Wah... With 3G, I can surf the web, e-mail with attachments, watch cable tv, get realtime stock quotes etc. I do sound a bit 'sua koo' (Hokkien word, means something like a person who's never seen something that's been there for so long), don't I? There are loads more that I can do with 3G... will tell you more once I actually get that phone! :-)
I spent some time last Friday researching credit card plans available from various banks. Any card that provides 0% interest intallment plans... I want to pay for the new phone in interest-free installments so that I don't feel the pinch. Mind you, for me this is a big purchase for one item. Anyway, the Southern Bank free-for-life Direct Access credit cards provide just what I wanted... the only drawback? I don't have the Direct Access credit card and I'd have to wait 10 working days before I get the cards after applying. Maxis' promo ends when they hit the 4,000 promo handsets quota. So what do I do? Persuade Nan Chuang to 'loan' me his Direct Access card... Don't even assume he'll buy me the phone, he said it's not a necessity. I have to pay him the monthly installments. ;-P
