Olympic Torch Relay, San Francisco

Hi everyone!  Sorry I've been away for so long.  Work has been keeping me pretty busy, and I'm still worried about which medical school I'll be going to in the fall.  I can't believe it's April and I still haven't heard from all of them yet.  Oh well, I've already been selected at UMiami and I'd be absolutely content going there.  I really hope I'll be sure about it by the end of the month though.  Anyway, another activity that's been keeping me busy is the India-Forums SRGMP Singing Contest.  The deadline for the first round is coming up soon on the 15th and I'm singing "Jab Chali Thandi Hawa" from Do Badan.  Almost ready but need a little more practice.

Okay, now to get to the subject of this post.  So, the Olympic Torch passed through San Francisco yesterday.  Although I work in the city, I didn't give it much thought at first because I didn't know where exactly the ceremony and relay would be held.  But as soon as I got to work, I found out that it was supposed to pass by AT&T Park, which is RIGHT next door to my lab!!!

Anyway, a couple friends and I went during lunchtime to go see it.  We waited around for an hour with hundreds of people holding various signs.  I thought it was interesting that the "Free Tibet" protesters were standing next to those with China flags, and not a single fight broke out.  I guess it says a lot about the tolerance of SF.  Unfortunately none of us tolerant folk got the opportunity to see the torch.  We saw some ceremony going on in the distance, but the runners never came down the path they were supposed to.  I think the authorities were fearful of their security, so they changed the route.  Even though it all ended up being a waste of time, I was still glad to get a break from work.  I have  few pictures of the supporters and protesters below.

I'll be posting new creations and updating the layout of my website soon!
