Community Members List

Short, concise description of the idea
Ability for community maintainers to hide their members list.

Full description of the ideaI run a few support communities on LJ that are prone to trolling and harassment towards the members. Many people create "fake" LJ accounts so that their LJ friends are not able to stumble upon ( Read more... )

AFAIK, the only reason paidmembers does this is because of load issues (anyone who has a paid account can join, so it has a huge member list.)

But if they already have the coding to do it, why not open it up to general LJ communities that also have issues?

Well, it's an exception to the rule that as I understand it has to be manually entered in for every community (so no, they do not already have the coding to automatically do it). Do note that the userinfo page for Paidmembers has rather specific exceptions, like the text at the top of the page saying "once you've bought a paid account you can join". Probably about the only other one I can think of that would have similar load-related issues would be ohnotheydidnt.

Why would they need to manually enter it for every community? Couldn't they make it a check box option (like the "Show friends who have also friended you" check box in the edit user info page)?

That probably depends on exactly how it was done, and whether doing that same thing for other communities would break something ( ... )

I'm not sure if hiding community members would cause a huge system glitch, but I was not aware of that friending fiasco, so it sounds like it is possible.

Yeah, I don't know about the developer aspect of it either, but I'm hoping they'll at least look into it.

Thanks for the informative comment! :)
