Title
Compensate Permanent users for LJ downtime

Short, concise description of the idea
Permanent users should receive extra account time whenever Paid users are compensated for downtime.

Full description of the idea
Recently, LiveJournal suffered a DDoS attack. Much of the site was unavailable thanks to some douchebags harassing a Russian user who had the temerity to speak his mind. None of this was LJ's fault.

However, out of the goodness of their hearts, LJ compensated paid users who were unable to access the site because of the attacks, offering them a three-day extension to their paid time. That wasn't enough for some people, though. Permanent users felt left out because they didn't get anything. Of course, there is the fact that since their "paid accounts" last forever, three days is literally 0% of what they've paid for. But that's not important.

What I suggest is adding on three extra days to the account of any Permanent user who suffered the horrible, irreparable damage of being unable to access LiveJournal during the outages, and during any future outages. This can be done by simply changing the text on http://www.livejournal.com/pay/claim.bml to read "Your account now expires in ∞+3 days" (and keeping track of how many times such an extension has been claimed, so that after several such outages it might read "Your account now expires in ∞+12 days").
An ordered list of benefits
  • Permanent users will stop complaining
An ordered list of problems/issues involved
  • Time spent coding
  • A sense of frustration from having to pander to idiots who can't see past their own noses

paid features, site downtime, permanent accounts, § no status
